Are you a player or are you a spectator?

Mr. Ed

Be what you is not what you what you ain’t

I am a spectator, one who observes before stepping into the line of fire.

That depends on what the participation involves. Generally, I try to follow the principle stated below.

Proverbs 27:12
The prudent see danger and take refuge, but the simple keep going and pay the penalty.
Why? Simple, because whenever I have seen a danger and chosen to ignore it, I have always suffered the negative consequences. Some have been damaging to my health, such as boxing, and others life-threatening. So when choosing to participate or not, I prefer to carefully evaluate the pros and the cons carefully.

I have played on Baseball teams, and played in bands all my life. But I am spectator in crowds mainly, and I never gamble...I was in Atlantic City for a month in 1983, at the Playboy Club. What a spectacle. Played in the band, nothing else. Oh some tennis with the trumpet player. :)
