Are you collecting doctors, and a bunch of prescriptions?

I lived 250 miles from my parents, when they were here. I remember walking in, and being shocked by all my Dad's meds. Well, now, I'm the one with all the meds. And there's not a week that goes by, when I don't have a doctor's appointment. It snuck up on me. I started collecting Dr.s and a boxfull of meds.
How about you?

I see my doc once a year for a physical. Sometimes she schedules a sonogram for one thing or another. This year she scheduled a whatever scan for osteoporosis (nope, don't have it). Already scheduled for a sonogram? scan? of carotids next fall. I take meds for BP and cholesterol. Count me lucky so far. I'm 77.

I have a cardiologist, General Practitioner, Pulmonologist and many prescriptions.

I have a GP that I see twice a year and an eye guy that I see once a year.

I take 7 prescriptions and 3 over the counter supplements.

I would have more doctors and more prescriptions but I decline some of my GP's suggestions for tests, treatments etc... if they don't seem right for me. I think that many people alow themselves to get passed around in the medical community simply because they have insurance that will cover the cost.

I see our family doctor usually twice a year. This past year I've also been to a hematologist, had a knee replaced y orthopedist, and lately a neurologist. Only taking 3 prescriptions, plus trying a sample the neurologist gave me.

I rarely see the doctor so far, just every few years when I want some bloodwork done, so I don't have a regular doctor and am not on any prescription meds yet.

I have a family doctor, neurologist and a kidney doctor. I had a massive stroke at 50 so the need for all 3. I have to take BP meds and very blessed that kidney problems have improved greatly. Internist told me last week that I could not compare my 70 year old body to other 70 year old people. He explained that having a massive stroke at 50 compromised my body. If I had had the stroke at 70 I probably would not have survived and would not have been on life support. I would have been allowed to pass on at that age. But since I was 50 there was a chance I could recover which I did to a certain extent. So I see the family doctor as needed and the kidney doc once a year.

I have an aversion to doctors
I also have a need to a couple BP meds (it’s a heredity thing)
s-o-o-o-o, I visit with her when she asks (she controls those prescriptions)
this May I must pop in, chat

I almost have her trained

Hospital stays and doctors tend to produce the most doctors and prescriptions. Know some who had those scripts or eliminated less than a week out. It seems many doctors and insurance companies want the patient out as soon as possible and will prescribe to make the numbers fit that criteria. If a patient is a strong advocate for themselves & works at their health including education, fitness and nutrition etc not that big an issue. If the person relies on and/or wants a pill or procedure for everything they are screwed.

I have my GP, one cardiologist and two different orthopedic surgeons - one for the knee and hip and another for the shoulders. I also have a regular podiatrist, dentist and optometrist. How else is one supposed to have a social life?

Years ago, I got taken in by my urologist. One appointment after another. Fingers stuck where they don’t belong and tubes that looked to be 3 inches in diameter going in other places. Even got taken in for a procedure that uses heat, I’ll leave the details out, to shrink the prostrate. Never, ever again. I walked out after he suggested they insert a hose in my hooha and use a pump to gain...well you know. I’m trying to be delicate here folks.
Anyway, never went back and am at the age where I don’t worry about my parts anymore.
