As marijauna becomes legalized and decriminalized and given that pot was a symbol of baby boomers, I am wondering how others feel about pot and use today. In my state of California, I suspect it will be legalized as it now is legal for "medical," reasons.

Alcohol screws up the mind a lot worse -- not a whole lot of potheads are out committing violent crimes, but alcohol certainly fuels enough violence.

AND, I strongly support the legality of using marijuana for medical purposes -- decreasing the side effects chemotherapy and such.

I have to agree.... Alcohol is much more destructive.. AND for those that say POT leads to other drugs... so does ALcohol.. Many alcoholics I see admitted also have other drugs in their system.
 
The minute there is a move to getting rid of cigarettes and alcohol, then the anti-pot groups may have a bit of credibility. Til then.....

As for legalizing it, Portugal decriminalized all drugs (in 2001?) and the following comment appears in this link: http://content.time.com/time/health/article/0,8599,1893946,00.html

I have never used marijuana , i hate the smell, and have no interest in any mind controlling drug!

Here in the UK very recently Scratch and sniff cards have been issued to the general public. Currently they have only been distributed in N Ireland, and are to be distributed to the rest of the Uk soon..in an effort to curb the huge influx of cannabis factories within the whole country but particularly Northern Ireland. So many people have no idea what Marijuana smells or looks like.

I am completely for the legalization of marijuana, and medical marijuana or cannabis oil has been shown to be very effective for pain from cancer and other diseases, and far more safe with less side effects than prescription drugs.
 
Personally....since I cannot drink alcohol due to my IBS... If I had the opportunity to do it again... and it was available...like right in front of me at a party... I just might.... Not saying for sure.. but I might... It's really no big deal. Oh who am I kidding.... Of COURSE I'd do it again if given the opportunity.. But I wouldn't seek it out.

You mentioned cancer and I was reminded of a guy who used to live near us, by the name of Rick Simpson. This happened just a couple years before we moved into the area but it's a fascinating story. He was curing cancer of whomever came to him, for free, for about three years I think (I should watch the link again!) before the RCMP busted him. But that was after he had taken all of the notes and photos that he took to the Canadian Cancer Society, who turned him and his 'anecdotal evidence' away without even looking at it.

And then he went to court and the judge decided she had no evidence that he was trafficking as he'd never made a penny off of it so she gave him two years probation and a $2,000.00 fine (which all his 'patients' took up a collection to cover). After his probation was up, he left Canada to live in some other country that was not so backward in its attitude about curing cancer. Not sure exactly where that is, but to the best of my recollection, that's the story in a nutshell.

I looked at bloomer's site and it's not at all like this one. Are you sure you looked at the right site? And the reason that he/she dropped in was to attract seniors to that senior focused website. It actually looks pretty good with some interesting articles and podcasts (and before you ask, I'm not affiliated with it.)
 
I was a true-blue head from my teen years through college and only slowed to a near stop when I married at 28. As a martial artist, marijuana had no negative effects upon my performance. Instead, it helped me to grasp some of the more esoteric concepts involved in the philosophy of Taoism, which is the core of my specialty (Taijiquan).

Weed took me out of my shell and helped me learn socialization skills, in the process introducing me to what would turn out to be lifelong friends.

On the medical side I have only had the opportunity to use it for acute pain such as that incurred in martial arts practice, but I fully support it in a medical capacity for more chronic and serious afflictions. As well, I believe it should be made legal for recreational use as well.

As you might guess I'm not one of those who hang on to the old-wives tales concerning the herb, so I'm not a closed-minded Jack Webb clone. :rolleyes:
 
From what I have read about medicinal marijuana, you would use a defferent variety from what people smoke to get high, and also a whole different part of the plant. The part that is smoked is called "bud", and the part that you use for pain management is the leaves; and they are usually used fresh, often in a green smoothie, or green juice drink.
I don't know much about either, mostly just what I have read; but if it were legal to have it where I live; I would certainly try growing and taking some for health benefits.
As far as usung it for recreational reasons; I have seen a lot of stories in the paper of drunk drivers hitting another car, and often killing the people they hit. I don't remember ever seeing an article about someone that was high on pot doing that; although I am sure that it probably happens. However, it certainly seems to me that pot is no more dangerous or harmful than drinking is.

Here's an interesting link on the subject of stoned drivers. According to a study by the US National Health and Safety Board, based on accident stats, stoned drivers are better drivers than drunk drivers. Debby, a doctor introduce me to smoking marijuana more than forty years ago, and every doctor I've ever had has been aware of my usage. My back was broken when I was nine, and I spent a years the Shriner's Children's Hospital getting the use of my leg back. But, there has always been chronic pain, and I loose the ability to walk quite often do to the old injury, and spinal stenosis. I don't use the rolled form, I use a pipe. That way I don't have to smoke as much, or as often. :wave:

Well didn't you have a forward thinking doctor! I'm so surprised to hear this. And sure sorry to hear that it still is an issue for you Ina...I think I'll quit complaining about the occasional old lady stiffness I feel....now I feel like a whiner.
 
Marijuana is really defined by the old adage of its a 'nuetral' thing and what is DONE with it makes it either good or bad. I agree with this. It is a total miracle for children with epilepsy...and I have a friend who is finally pain free from her Lyme disease because of it ... I don't believe it is a 'cure all miracle' as some would proclaim...but it needs credit where it is due.

Does it do more damage than alcohol and tobacco??? NO. ... I feel exactly the same way about pot as I do about alcohol... and many see nothing wrong with an occasional drink (or two) after work or whatever... Why do they need it? Why is IT ok????

The main thing wrong (to me, my opinion, not god's word...) with pot is that it has the 'lure' to some of being 'able to do something we really should not do'...like premarital sex in the back seat of a car... and its not as casually accepted as drinking.

What I am DEAD SET against...is marijuana in candy or other 'sweets' form...this has KILLED people because it is not test or regulated and I think its a STUPID idea....
In some ways I have this mean sounding idea: let ALL drugs be legalized (for over 21'rs)...why should anybody be responsible for other people lives? Like those who believe the "government should take care of me" and then they bitch about 'being controlled...' Let those who die from drugs, do so... eventually Life Itself would teach the lesson and things would normalize... Breaking the rules and the thrill of getting away with something and playing with the devil...this is the lure of drugs until addiction takes over...then IT rules.

A bit like: why should we make cans of icing unavailable or illegal...because someone has diabetes and might kill themselves if they keep eating it... I probably shouldn't write this...and I honestly do not mean to offend anyone... its just the way I honestly feel... and a lot of what I have learned is just from observing life. People die every day from alcohol...but you don't hear the people who would ban all marijuana saying ALL ALCOHOL should be illegal! You cannot legislate morality.
And now let us sing hymn number...... heh! :)
