Are you "nosy"?

I am not normally a nosy person-I really don`t much care about other people`s business,if it doesn`t affect me.My daughter #2 is very nosy-she wants to know everything about everybody and is also OK with everyone knowing everything about her,for the most part.

Well, since we moved to our new place in August,I have my computer in a front window and I look out on the entire front of our property, the road and our across the street neighbor`s driveway. Can`t see their house-too many trees and bushes on both sides, plus we both sit far back on our properties.

My daughter #3 (whom I didn`t think was nosy AT ALL)went to school with our neighbor`s son. They connected on FB a year and a half ago during the big wildfires here when both of our homes were threatened (even though we were in our old place then). I don`t know if they know that our kids know one another but they have never so much as said hello to us. No problem at all. They also,as far as I`ve ever seen, not ever had anyone come to their house. They do leave the house every day between 3 and 4 and come home around 10. I think they go to the casino lol. This is just a guess.

So about three weeks ago,two cars started coming to their house and have been staying. Lots of in and out traffic. Their car also comes and goes but not like before-i.e.not from 3ish to 10ish. I really thought something happened to one of them and asked my daughter to check her friend`s FB page and see if he is saying anything. She checked and said there is nothing but the usual stuff.

Then yesterday,I passed their car on the road and the man driving waved at me. I assumed it was the husband but don`t know. So I mentioned it to my daughter and she said that her friend is posting a bunch of his childhood pics on FB,like he must be at his parent`s house and going through stuff. I also saw the cable guy pull in there today too-like I said,NO ONE has EVER been there, that I have seen.

I`m only telling all of this because, like I told my daughter #3 today,I feel like Mrs.Kravitz....so not me. Then she said "Hey,I have a big front window and I watch EVERYTHING,all the time!" I told her "Well,I guess nowadays it`s called Neighborhood Watch and considered Community Service LOL.

So,are you nosy?

First I have to say you aren't Mrs. Kravitz, because my husband is. We are living in our new house over a year now and I don't know anyone here, but my husband knows everyone on our block. I don't think though when you see something going on it means you're nosy. I think it means you are just hoping everything is OK.

I don't think I am nosy, but I do like to keep track of what goes on in my neighborhood. In the city we seem to have too many problems with transients just passing through and committing crimes of opportunity.

Over a year ago my neighbor across the street accidentally left her car (parked on the street) unlocked and someone (3 of them) opened her door and stole some items. My next door neighbor caught it on surveillance footage. One of the perps walked up my driveway and checked the doors of my two cars. This all took place at around 4 AM.

So I am kinda paranoid and do try to watch what goes on. And I did also get my own surveillance system with 3 cameras. The sad part is that even if someone stole something from me and I had it on tape, the police would not do anything about it unless there was a homicide involved. My 9mm does also give me some comfort.

I don't know if that qualifies me as being nosy.(?)

In my opinion, that’s not being nosy, it’s being observant and curious which I think is normal.

People should know who is around them for their own safety.

I’d like to change my answer to I’m curious enough to know who is around me including my closest neighbours but I’m not the least bit interested in knowing what they are doing or why.

If our dogs bark at someone walking down our road then I usually look to see who it is. Is that nosey?
If so then yes I am.

Well, when living in a small town, I call "being nosey" simply being friendly. In a small town, folks will talk to each other, get to know each others family and attend town events. Farmers and ranchers are like that. They know their neighbors and all will help each other when it comes to haying season (like I did), branding/inoculation time and taking cattle from one pasture to another. Not all ranchers can afford hired hands. A barn dance, for the town to attend, is always neat. Local farm and ranch kids participate in 4-H and FFA Fair events. My high school years were on a farm in a medium farming area close to a small town. Most everyone around us were farmers.

Big cities definitely don't do this stuff.

Mrs. R, I don't think what you were doing is nosy at all. I'm not a nosy person, but I do pay attention if something unusual is going on outside, especially if my dog alerts me.

I did look out my front window for a day or so when the house across the street from us was sold, I wondered who the new neighbors were and if they had any dogs. Nice young couple with baby and English Bulldog named Tank. :D

I AM hoping everything is OK. If my daughter was not friends with their son,I probably wouldn`t think too much of it,other than feeling sorry that something must have happened. Of course, like I told my daughter, maybe they took off and moved to Mexico and left the house to the kids! Wes said their car passed him today too and the driver waved-but he said it wasn`t the man that lives there.

Yes.

I don't ask many questions but I do absorb information over time and file it away for future reference.

People that are close to me don't think I'm nosey because I seldom repeat the things that I see and hear.

I'll admit it...….I'm fairly nosy.

I think being nosy starts out as just curiosity. Then I think there's a point where curiosity tips over into nosiness. A curious person will wonder about things, but doesn’t ask or take it any further because he knows it’s none of his business. A nosy person thinks it is his business and asks anyway. And I then I think the next logical step for a nosy person is gossip. Gossip isn't just passing on information about someone, it's doing it with one's own opinions and judgements thrown in to the mix.

Yeah, I think I'm kinda nosy. Not nosy to the point where I'm constantly staring out my window with binoculars checking on the neighbors because I really don't care. But I definitely am curious about the lives of my friends and acquaintances which can sometimes tip over into nosiness because I really do understand that it's none of my business, but I want to know anyway.

I don't go by "it's none of my business". I go by "I'm just friendly". But, there are those that are very, very private and don't like being friendly towards most anyone. I leave them alone.

Gee, Mrs. Robinson, I'm glad that you are " not normally a nosy person ". You just happened to notice all the comings and goings of your neighbors, and get your daughter to check them out on Face Book. :) I have to admit that I'm not normally a nosy person, either. My new neighbors never come out in the backyard, which is the only place I can get a good view. Rats. They just come home and go right in the damn house. Now, is that any way for neighbors to act? I don't know if they have kids or what. My other neighbor, who is not nosy, either; doesn't even know their names. And he knows the names of every neighborhood pet. But, nothing on my new neighbors. Some people are so inconsiderate.

I live alone and I don't have to be nosy. Nosy neighbors call me. They tell me there is someone prowling around town at night and that I should watch out. I should appreciate that, but I don't.

These ladies call me at least once a month to tell me someone threatened my cats too. Really? They also told me that one of our neighbor's sons is dead and that the parents rolled him in a rug and buried him at their summer cabin in another county. Uh huh... Their reasoning is if the kid doesn't come home to visit anymore, he has to be dead. Good Lord he didn't move away from the nuts here, no.
