I've also reached 6 tries due to one letter that be substituted each time. Very frustrating! That was the pattern today. I finally got it on the sixth try! This type of word really shouldn't be in this game, as it's just dumb luck if you get it right on the 3rd, 4th, or whatever try. Many words are spelled the same with the exception of one letter. So you could go through a sequence like:
Light
Right
Sight
Might
Night
Tight
and then it finally says good for you, you got "tight" on the sixth try! But there's no skill in that, it's just blind guessing. (That wasn't today's word, I just made it up as an example. But today's word worked exactly by the same logic.)
I do like the game when it makes you think. "Let's see... the third letter can't be an A, because it would have to come right before an E, and how likely is that? And it can't be the first letter, because it already told me that T is the first letter. So..." When it's like that, the game is really fun. I especially love it when I get it on the third try, which is the best I've done so far, a couple of times.
Play this most days and doing good so far,the word I start with is "Adieu" if you play what word do you start with?

Yes, the word games can be frustrating but they force you to think for an extended period to solve them, so I really think they are good for the brain.I just started seeing ads for Wordle when I play Words With Friends. Never saw them before this thread was posted. It seems like the type of game that would frustrate me (like @dseag2 pointed out), so I don't think I'll start playing.
I play Words With Friends. It takes strategy and use of special tools provided to win the games. Some opponents are definitely more challenging than others. I have two or three I rarely beat (one is my oldest grandson) but wind up winning most of my games. I love Cody Cross, a different kind of puzzle. I play those two daily. I also play Word Crush (un-jumbling themed words) as well as a couple of other word games. I play other games that I feel help me cognitively as well, such as Fantasy and Classic Mahjong.Yes, the word games can be frustrating but they force you to think for an extended period to solve them, so I really think they are good for the brain.
