Are you still trying to save the world?

I’ve got to the point where I spend more time trying to figure out what is causing this problem that I am having and whether to see a doctor than I do trying to figure what is wrong with the world.
After all we fixed most of those problems that affect the world a long time ago.
We campaigned to stop the destruction of the rain forests and to plant more trees and now they claim that we have to spend a lot of money on alternative fuels to bring about the same results.
If everybody respected the environment and tried to leave as small of a carbon footprint as the can we wouldn’t have to fix a lot of problems after the fact.

It often feels like I'm surrounded by people who are fiddling ineptly and out of tune while Rome burns. I'm no longer sure what can be done because the ignorance seems absolutely willful, emphasizing the wrong things or taking insane self-destructive positions on issue after issue.

In the kingdom of the blind the one-eyed man gets censored.

Humans face a lot of problems, and there aren't that many good answers. We could stop the harvesting of trees to save the rain forest, but where do you get the wood to build homes needed by humans to survive? I don't think we aren't solving the world's problems, because we don't care, it's that our knowledge of the problem is still too little to know what the right solution is.

I refuse to save the world, let it fall, let it crumble I DON'T CARE not my problem

Mr. Ed, you are more than right.

We have a house which uses solar energy for heating up water in the summer, thus less oil consumption. We have a garden with some bee friendly plants for them. We give bees and other insects water from spring to fall. We have some bushes and trees in our garden and give birds water from spring to fall and feed them from November to May. We have only a very small car, which produces less CO2 than most other cars, drive slowly and have a gasoline consumption of 6 liters per 100 km (62 miles). We drive less than 10.000 km (6214 miles) per year. Our last flight was before 2010 and no other flights are planned.

In contrast to us these people of the "last generation" who block airports and streets and get paid for this from millionairs in the U.S. fly to Thailand for vacation. This is very hypocritical!

We do what we can with our limited possibilities. We can't save the whole world, but if all people give some drops this gives an ocean in the end too. If all people would take care of their small environments the earth would be a better place for all animals, including this ape who calls himself man.

End of story!

Yes and no. I still make a large annual contribution to one favorite "environmental" group, but not so much for strictly environmental reasons. It's more about protecting areas of nature for future generations, but it does contribute to slowing global warming, although that is not its stated purpose. So "yes." On the other hand, "no. I've given up trying to "save the world." I think it's a lost cause, and I'll be dead before the worst of it comes. I do wish future generations the best of luck in dealing with serious issues that were not their doing.

The future generations are already embracing AI (Artificial Intelligence) so they won't have a shot at saving ....anything...
Including themselves.

No. I saved the world over 20 years ago. But, people won’t listen to me, so they messed it up again.

Seriously, this group risks being taken over by a bunch of old sourpusses.

My faith based answer: The world will be saved. But first it will be destroyed. Biblical prophecy is being fulfilled before our very eyes. And when all prophecy is fulfilled it will be over and a new perfect world will come to be. No one knows when that will be. But we can continue to watch the signs and we can make sure we're ready.

The signs are all around. I too have faith.

I never attempted to save the world. However, I believed that I was helping to make it a better place in which to live via my Christian conduct.

The signs you are referring hypothetically have always been around saith the people who say the signs are all around. Same old story, same old song and dance with nothing to show for it. I guess it gives Christians a sense of well-being according to their belief in the rapture?

When the world comes to an end, i will celebrate days gone past not to ever repeat again.

Will we go out in a blaze of glory or a stinky little fart full of regret? I will celebrate the day I leave this world behind as I look forward to the. level of adventure providing there is something to death besides a lifeless corpse.

I never was trying to save it. and I'm still not. I have planted plenty of trees, recycled waste, tried to save energy in my house etc.. so now in return I feel no guilt in having two or three foreign holidays by air every year, drive a diesel campervan, eat meat etc.

I worry about the world. I'm glad I never reproduced. There is a bad fire in southern California. I checked the Big Bear live eagle cam. Smoke! I'm afraid this place is going to burn. Everything is a mess.
