Are you successful growing indoor plants?

I live in a ground floor unit which gets very little direct sunlight.
No direct sunlight until 1pm - in the summer.
No sunshine through the windows in the winter
Any suggestions as to what plants I might try?

Yes Iā€™m successful at growing indoors and outdoors and second the idea of getting a grow light. There are many varieties of grow lights available. Grow in a soilless medium and make sure not to over water. Your plant will show when it needs watering

Mother-in-laws' tongue...it'll grow anywhere indoors for anyone...

Same here. I'm not wild about having the indoors inside anyway; found out I'm probably allergic to mold and unless I could move to the South Pole, the North Pole or Northern Greenland, they say mold sufferers need to stay inside since there's mold all over over (except the 3 places I mentioned). So I figure I don't need to be bringing the outdoors in.

I was going to suggest that, I have one now and also have low light conditions in my home. I have killed a few over the years, so they're no indestructible to someone like me with a black thumb. My husband always jokes that I kill my plants with kindness, never from neglect.

A couple of others are Schefflera or Umbrella plant. Indoor palm is another suggestion Also Philodendron.

well obviously it's no impossible to kill any plant.. but M-i-L's tongue need so little looking after, it's easy to keep it just needs a drink every now and then.. and it's really not prone to disease...unlike a lot of other plants like Jade Plants...
 
I only have a couple of indoor plants because I'm often away for long periods of time so nothing gets watered. Somehow this African Violet has not only survived my inattention but has flourished! Haven't added new soil to it since I can remember and my watering routine is whenever I remember to do it (often not for days - weeks). Flowers die off evey autumn then come back like gangbusters in the spring. This thing defies logic :unsure:

Not at all. I tried for years and just got tired of killing them. I even killed a snake plant. You're not even supposed to be able to do that! So I bought some pretty realistic looking silk plants. My sister, on the other hand had beautiful plants hanging and sitting all over her house. She didn't seem to do anything special to care for them. The bamboo plants that were from cuttings we'd buy at dollar stores, grew to over 3 ft tall in her house. Mine died.
 
I decorate with house plants. I have plants in every room and have lots of light since we renovated and added sliding glass doors in the kitchen and pulled down a couple walls.

Zz plant, peace lily, spider plant, pothos, prayer plant, philodendron, begonia, Hoya (so many varieties of Hoya!) are just some plants that thrive in low light. I have all of these because they respond well to medium and high light too, plus many others.

Big box construction stores like Home Depot and Loweā€™s always have a variety of indoor plants and typically have tags on the plants signifying low, medium or high light needs,along with the plantā€™s name.

Just now took these two pictures of opposite sides of my living room with several of the plants I mentioned.

Wow. Amazingly healthy plants. Some people just "have it". You've got "it" :)
