When I was a sophomore in college, there was a demonstration on my state university campus about the feeling that the university was "aiding and abetting" the war effort by allowing ROTC to exist and allowing recruiters from companies who produced "war" items for the government on campus for hiring fairs. One of the demonstrators was burning both the American flag and the university flag. Here comes the very elderly mother of the university president, who happened to have graduated from that same university when they barely allowed women in and SHE WAS MAD AS A WET HEN! She took off after the demonstrator and beat the heck out of him with her umbrella and cane. Finally, the cops pulled her off him. Don't mess with what old ladies regard as sacred.
