At what age did you stop changing oil on your car?

I thought you meant, How old does my car have to be before I stop taking it in for an oil change. Never mind....
I once worked with a woman in 1984 who was in the market to buy a new car. Her previous car she had purchased new in '79 or '80, had developed many serious mechanical problems. She had never changed the oil--EVER. She said she'd add a quart when it got low. After getting over my initial shock, I was amazed that it still ran at all.

I still change my oil and filters. The last time I had it changed....years ago....the mechanic didn't tighten the oil pan bolt properly, and I had a quart of oil on the garage floor the next morning. Had I been driving very far, I would have been stranded with a blown engine.

Yep, I've had too many problems after taking vehicles in for oil changes that I no longer trust anyone else to do it. But at least with the new synthetic oil, you only have to change your oil every five years or so, if that, since it doesn't break down like the old oils.

Still, I'm nervous about going that long. It's been three years since my last oil change and I'm going to change it as soon as we get some warm weather.

I used to change my oil (synthetic) with my old Dodge Neon. Once I got my PT Cruiser, and now Mitsubishi Outlander Sport, I stopped. I'd rather pay someone else to do it.

I changed my own oil in my 20’s through 40’s, but stopped doing it when there ceased to be places in my area that would accept the used waste oil. There used to be roadside depots for it, but people overloaded them plus they weren’t emptied often enough. A few garages used to accept waste oil, but then apparently decided it was cutting into their oil-changing profits, so refused used oil. Now I just grimace, and pay garage prices for oil changes…

I owned a body and mechanical shop for many years, so my employees took vare of my vehicles. I sold that shop for good money and retired at 57.

I changed mine when I was younger and poorer and had time on my hands. Later, I made an appointment for a Saturday when I was off work to get it changed by a local mechanic. He did my inspections and maintenance to. Now I go back to the dealer for it all once a year for oil and annual inspection.

Have not reached that age yet! Don’t have the time to wait for appointments at our local mechanic and all the time driving and waiting. And I don’t trust the quick change places as they stripped out my fill plug once and did not even tell me!

Whats Oil Change LOL LOL....No never
I did see an oil can on my dash board yesterday with ......"oil Checked "
God knows what that means .... o_O

I never changed my own oil. When I was younger, I used to buy $300 junks, which would pass inspection only once, so why bother changing the oil. Plus, I'm not a good mechanic, I probably would have stripped something. I'm one of those get a bigger hammer type guys. Now, I let someone else do it. If it could, my car would probably thank me for not doing it myself.

I used to occasionally change my oil. And the occasional fuel filter and such. But Now I take it in. I have noticed that you can really go a long time without changing oil…in spite of recomendations. Except the subaru. That sucker has gone thru oil since birth. Go six thousand miles and you are a quart low. Never owned a vehicle like that before…

When I was 18 I bought a 1962 MGA. I tried changing the oil myself the first time it needed changing. Not good. I ended up with my hair full of oil and it leaked out when I went for a drive. There happened to be a foreign car specialist mechanic just down the street. I pulled in and told him what I needed. He smiled knowingly. It took 2 of them to do the oil change in about 30 minutes. It took me 2 weeks to get the oil completely out of my hair.
