At what age did you turn the corner

squatting dog

We don't have as far to go, as we've already been
Or have you yet to turn the corner? Myself... I'm 72 and still going at it hard and heavy. This week, wife and I finished putting up the above ground pool and extending the deck to it, and plumbed in the solar water heaters. In between that, I mowed the dogs acre yard, then sprayed the yard with bug killer, and bush hogged about 6-7 acres of my meadows. (still a bunch to go). Also, we spread another 25 tons of sb gravel to extend the drive way and wheel barreled a bunch more to top off the walkway around the house. Raked up last years leaves from around and under the storage trailer. weed wacked the perimeter of the dogs yard. Still found time to run over to the neighbor and pull the injector pump off his 3208 cat diesel. All this plus of course the usual chores we share... feeding the fur babies, vacuuming the house, laundry, etc. WHEEEW I'm beat just looking at all this written down. :)
So, I guess what I'm wondering is everyone else this busy?

I never enjoyed physical labor and so far I've been able to maintain a reasonable distance from it.

I stopped doing anything of value when I stopped working shortly after my 51st birthday 13 years ago.

I enjoy life in the slow lane.

Kudos and Congrats to you, Squatting Dog, although it sounds more like a Sprinting Dog to me. I'm 65 and with Aunt Bea, I prefer life in the slow lane. Of course, having had a heart attack at 47 may have influenced my direction? So, regardless what my mind says, if my body says don't do it, I don't do it. Don...

We do not have anywhere as near as much property as you do , Squatting Dog; but we do usually keep busy with the house and yard that we do have.
It is getting hot here (Alabama) now, so I am up early to do the gardening before it gets too hot, and the rest when it cools back down in the evening.
My husband is getting the back yard ready to put up the little above ground pool; but ours is more of a “float-around” kind of a pool, and I do my actual swimming at the fitness center.
We both like to keep busy, and it seems like there is always something that needs done, but we can’t do as much of it or for as long as we used to do.
I am 73, and trying hard not to turn that corner and head down the hill to being stuck in the house and not able to do anything.

6 years we downsized at 53 and 58. Since we live where there is a water shortage and rarely rains we decided to put in astro-turf to make things easy and save water. We put our plants and small garden on a irrigation system. We tried to make things as maintenance free as possible. We do have 2 patios with furniture which we sweep and have to clean off, etc.

Not sure that I understand the question-----Explain please.

Lon, I guess I'm just curious if what we're doing seems normal. (hard to define normal) Ever since the loss of my daughter, I've been throwing myself into multiple projects and so has the wife.
Too cheap to see a shrink I guess.

Actually, most mental health professionals would applaud what u are doing. This is a very positive way to deal with grief. Of course, grief is a personal process, unique to each individual. Not all are able to function as you do. Kudos to you.

Sounds like you and I share similar lifestyles. With 40 acres, I Never run out of things to do outdoors. This time of year, it takes about 10 hours a week just to keep the yard looking good. But, that is certainly a great way to stay fit. I've got a list of indoor projects, and vehicle maintenance on rainy days, and then starting in September (after tic season) I have spotted over 15 good sized dead trees to chainsaw and split for next Winter's firewood for our big outdoor wood furnace. If I chose to lay around watching TV, or on the computer, it's not for a lack of things to do.

Too mean-spirited, so I pulled my original reply. The op comes off as a braggart.

I can't for the life of me figure out why you'd say that. It doesn't sound like bragging to me, just sharing the joy that he can still do all that. Makes me tired to think about all that work in one day.

I don't think I've turned the corner yet. I still do most of what I did 20 years ago, just a little slower and it hurts more....

One day!!!

WHOA!

I'm gonna take a nap

Well, at least one week. Still worthy of a nap, I think.

Here's my schedule:

Put towels in washer.

Take a nap.

Take towels out of washer, put in dryer.

Take a nap.

Take towels out of wash, fold.

Take a nap.

Tired out from getting on and off the bed.....take a nap.

Put towels away.

Have a snack to get strength to take a nap.

Take a nap.

Think about next load of laundry, get tired.

Go to bed for the night.

So you fold the towels and then put them somewhere......interesting

I've found having one towel and one washcloth reduces that effort....more nap time

You don’t believe in a green, healthy lifestyle? Multitasking, adding exercise to everyday chores? I bounce a lot. Keeps me on my toes.

Good on you

I haven't bounced since HS football

and that was more carom than bounce

However, I am pretty decent at a full slog, or aggressive mosey
