Auto CEOs Struggling With Whether To Replace Striking Workers With Robots

DETROIT, MI — With UAW workers officially on strike to demand a 4-day, 32-hour work week, leadership with the Big Three automakers are reportedly struggling with whether to replace the union workers with robots or Mexicans.

"We really could go either way on this," said Ford CEO Jim Farley while lighting up a Cuban cigar with a stack of $100 dollar bills. "On one hand, robots work perfectly and tirelessly without complaining around the clock. On the other hand, President Biden is welcoming thousands and thousands of Mexicans across the border every day who will happily do these jobs for 32 cents per hour, 70 hours per week. What to do?"

"This is a real conundrum."

According to reports, there are currently 32,000 illegal migrants patiently waiting outside the picket line to take the place of the autoworkers while providing a superior work ethic for pennies on the dollar.

"We are tired of greedy corporations taking advantage of the American worker," said UAW President Shawn Fain. "We demand infinity money for less work forever. And we want to work from home. We believe this is more than reasonable."

At publishing time, automaker leadership elected to compromise and go with the robots but hire Mexicans to build them.

The auto companies will automate as much as possible and/or more than they are now. The strike is costing them money and trying to fund electric vehicle is costing them money. EV production is a union sticking point because if they transition to more EV production that's less gas powered car production where the union has an in.

The government wants too fast a transition to ev production and use. The costs are too high.

They say EVs are easier to make and/or require fewer parts. It's costlier build including materials, batteries and special assembly lines etc But an easier build which might make robot use easier.
 
Maybe a news story about replacing striking employees with robots might be a planted story by management?
The reason there are still employees is they're cheaper than robots in a particular job in car building. I'm sure the union feels their members are being robbed by unethically low wages, and management is just eking by with paying those same generous wages. I don't know who is right.
I've always wondered why those old steel/mining companies fought and people died over a one cent increase in wages, but the owners gave $millions away to charity for the good of the "people".
 
The story was from Babylon Bee, a satirical website who claims to be only that. Others have attempted over the years to label them as a
right-wing or christian website. To these people, they need to have a sense of humor &/or take it with a grain of salt & move on.

Getting back to the strike & replacing them with robots. That has already happened in this industry & very well could continue. I'm sure that thought has always been there since the first ones was installed in the 70s.

My question is, are these people pricing themselves out of a job? Everyone would like a raise to make ends meet, but the auto workers aren't there doing that.

Also, the CEOs have to answer to the shareholders who have invested their money in these companies. Money they are trying to make so they can have a decent retirement themselves. What about them?

There are a lot of people who need a new car, but can't afford the prices they want. I'm one of those people.
 
The union rejected a 21% pay raise, which would be about $34 an hour. They are asking for $40. The news this morning...

The United Auto Workers union is stepping up pressure on Detroit’s Big Three by threatening to expand its strike unless it sees major progress in contract negotiations by Friday.

In a video statement late Monday, UAW President Shawn Fain said workers at more factories will join those who are now in the fifth day of a strike at three plants.

“We’re not going to keep waiting around forever while they drag this out ... and we’re not messing around,” Fain said in announcing the noon Eastern time Friday deadline for escalating the strike unless there is “serious progress” in the talks. The union plans to disclose the locations of new strikes during an online presentation to members that morning.

Clear example of the real reason after the 1986 immigration legislation we still have excessive illegal immigration and all the ills like homelessness it causes that Wall Street and their puppet politicians and media are the cause of but point every where else but to them. Each generation, bring in large numbers of illegal immigrants and visa overstays to undercut the pay of native US citizens to force wage rates down so they can better compete in their "Global Market". So those fat cats can become rich while many of us are thrown under the bus.

And use that large numbers of immigrants to so crowd the low end housing market with excessive numbers living in units that it forces many of our lower income native US citizens into higher cost residences often with excessive numbers per units while in turn given less low end housing, driving our middle class workers into higher cost residences than they would otherwise choose. The only construction Wall Street real estate and their financial partners are willing to build.
