Apparently the theft of avocados has become a crime issue in New Zealand. 40 large scale thefts this year alone. Increased local demand has growers used to producing for export trying keep pace. Price now about 4-6 dollars each.

I've heard of art thieves, car thieves, jewel thieves etc and now I can add avocado thieves to that list.

Don't buy stolen avocados. They aren't mature and won't taste good.

At least, that's what I heard on the news this morning.

Wouldn't it be great if this was as bad as the news gets every day.

Pinching fruit from the orchards has been going on for years, it's usually taken to the markets up in Auckland. I can't figure why they are so dear in the supermarkets. Maybe because most are being exported so we pay what the overseas consumer pays.

That's expensive for an avocado ..they are $1.80 here in South Australia ,this week normal price is about $2.60
