The ship that the Pilgrims sailed in was built in my home town and there is a project here that is building a replica of the Mayflower and intend sailing it to the 'New World' on the 500th anniversary......Captain Christopher Jones who captained the Mayflower was also born in my home town and his house is still standing.

Yes, they were persecuted because they had a real weirdo religion, not your run of the mill religion. They were a small minority and didn't fit the mold of a 'proper christian'.
