B12? Now I get it!

When my new doctor here in Missouri told me I needed B12.....badly, I thought ok fine.
He gave me a list of vitamins to replenish what having Alpha-Gal had depleted from me and also said
he wanted me to get B12 shots once a month in office.
It took some time but I began to notice an increase in energy stamina. Like working in the yard went from
running out of energy after an hour or so to now working hard (mowing and weed whacking) up to nearly 5 hours at a time.
I even take care of my neighbor's yard now who has to have knee replacement. BTW, I am 73 yrs old.
When he said I need B12 to help with energy, I envisioned like bursts of it. Nope it was a steady increase in stamina
energy. Steady pace, focused and just get it done thing.
The shots are the key over taking just a tab orally. I am glad I went his way and not the route of energy drinks and
water with electrolytes like others advised me to do.

A couple times in past few years, I've asked about various
shots for minerals, vitamins, whatever, and my doctor refuses
it each time.....so wth, I just quit asking.
no idea, possibly an insurance issue or something, usually everything revolves around insurance rules. My shot costs me a quarter on my new insurance, was free on my old. I just walk in, nurse calls me...10 min I am in/out don't have to see Dr for the shot. I think they like your B12 at 1000. Mine was -89 when I began the shots. Maybe your B12 is already in range. Maybe someone knows the numbers for sure

My chronic pain doctor has been helping me with vitamins... He started me out on Magmesium Glicate, and that helped with my sleeping (take at night) then he suggested Milk Thistle because of my fatty liver, and that has helped... Then, there's vitamin D, which will also help with my pain, and it has helped a lot. Last time, he suggested B12 because I was getting tired very easily and running out of energy. I started taking it last Friday, and I've noticed a bit more energy, but not a significant amount yet.

B12 is a slow process yes, but as you increase your energy use you do notice it becoming longer lasting. It's getting your body to want to move longer is the trick:D

IF you are not B12 deficient, you will not see a difference.
It is a water soluble vitamin, and it will just pass through your body.

IF you are slightly deficient, most will pass through your body.

I would check with a doctor before spending money on something not needed.

My blood work shows no B12 deficiency, but in times past has shown a B-9 folate deficiency, and for that the doctor has recommended supplementation.

So, I take a multi-vitamin daily and a B-100 complex capsule as well, which includes B-9 and B-12. My doctor is aware of this, and has expressed no objection. I feel certain he will advise me otherwise if any future blood work shows high or low vitamin irregularities.

How did he know you needed B12? Blood work?

Yes, being a new patient he wanted to check everything himself. I had contracted Alpha-Gal (Lone Star Tick bite) 5 years before and was still not eating anything with mammal products in it. He was concerned if I was getting enough nutrients. So he did a full blood test for everything. Turns out yes I was low on many nutrients I needed and then Joy oh joy... because I had not eaten anything with mammal products for 4.5 years (I read labels religiously) I had starved the enzymes and no longer had Alpha-Gal. My doctor in the other state told me it was a lifetime issue so I never thought to ask for a re-check. The B-12 was on the way to naught when he caught it.

^^ B12 deficiency is much more common i n vegetarians

although I realise you are not neccesarily one, you might eat chicken and fish, which are not mammals

I was prescribed B12 a couple months ago during my Dr. visit. It was the result of blood work he had me do before coming in to see him. Have not noticed that taking it daily has made any difference at all but I'm still taking it.
