Cowaramup's Kerri and Allan Coremans' newborn Winston was born on Christmas Day. (ABC South West: Georgia Loney)

The regional city of Busselton, nearly three hours south of Perth, is experiencing what locals are jokingly calling a COVID baby boom — nine months after WA's lockdown. Births at Busselton Hospital in November and December 2020, nearly doubled compared to the same period the previous year, with 74 babies born.

As a result of this pandemic, and the economic downturns it has created....job losses, etc., there are several predictions stating that the near term birth rates will be declining. Some are predicting 500,000 fewer births this year, in the US, as couples contemplate their reductions in income, and compare that to the cost of having/raising a child.

That's what I've been reading about the US, too.

Well we've all been in lockdown since March , so I know this is true... this is an older age group area, but in the last few weeks, I have seen more young people walking past pushing prams than I've ever seen before ....that and dogs... seems like ever since the lockdown everyone..bar none, seems to have a dog or more than one
