Hi All...after taking a brief hiatus from the forum, I'm back in the saddle again. I have missed my forum friends, but have been lurking and keeping up now and then.

I think I have the winter time blues, in Oregon we used to call it cabin fever. It's been too cold to do anything much outside, with the exception of a couple of days last week, which I used to repaint a wrought iron patio set. I had new cedar slats made for the seats and back and still have to varnish them but then......We got 3-4 inches of snow on Friday, which put an end to that project, but we really enjoyed watching it come down. There was no ice associated with it, and it's gone now...just a nice no hassle snow.

I took my brother to the airport last week to send him back to Portland..I really miss him, as next to hubby he is my best friend and he does so much to help us out around here. He's been here since Christmas day and had to get back hoping he would get called back to his job. He's been laid off for several months but is next on the list for re-hire. Whenever he comes he usually stays for a couple of months. When he leaves there is always a hole in life's fabric for a while.

Seabreeze...enjoyed your recent pictures. I know you had snow last week, are you close to Breckenridge? I have a friend visiting there and sent some pictures of the snow.

Fishwisher...Sending good thoughts your way for your wifey and sis...I can empathize with the back problem. I will be going in next month for some rhizotomy procedures on mine..can't wait as I am sitting here today with an ice pack and battling with spasms that are trying to take hold.

Rkunsaw...the battle of the gumballs continues...we should come up with some unique marketing deai to sell those things..we'd get rich fast.

Steve...sounds like you got the snow you were wishing for..was it too late though?

TWH...where the heck are you?...I need my horsie buddy! No one understands shopping at Tractor Supply like you...LOL......I sure hope everything is okay with your and your family..

pchinvegas...Right now I am envying your great weather...I would be happy if we could get some spring, but not looking forward to the hot summer.

I see we have some new members and I collectively welcome all of you to the forum, and am looking forward to seeing your posts...

Yaay!!! :banana: A warm welcome back Ozarkgal, been missing you! :girl_hug: I think we all have a grey cloud overhead at times, especially in winter. :love_heart:

Hope your brother gets a call back soon, and gets some regular work. It may be a little better for you, knowing that although he's not in your company, he's happy and doing well work-wise. I don't live near Breckenridge, places like that are more for the skiers, in mountain areas. I don't like THAT much cold or snow, never did enjoy winter activities. Trudged through a few inches of snow for my walk in the park today, and that was enough for me, lol. :p

I've been missing TWHRider too, sent her a PM, but no reply. :( Hope she's okay, and no problems with hubby or her furkids. :sentimental:
 

Thanks Sea Breeze...I am so ready for spring and an internal battery charging....winter has worn me down this year. I was really looking forward to winter after the brutal drought and heat of last summer, but it seems like an awfully long winter this year.

I've missed participating in the forum...I never thought I would develop an attachment to online friends, but we have a great group here!
 
Glad you're back Ozarkgal. I kept busy in the garden during the short spring we had. Now that winter is back I'm hibernating again. I've been spending time on facebook and listening to old songs on youtube.

Its never too late to get snow or any form of precipitation..

We need the snow very badly for several reasons but mainly to prevent forest fires.. Without lots of moisture in the forest, we are in BIG trouble....
 
Welcome back. I haven't been on the forum for a while either. Have been trying (like you all advised) to concentrate on work and was doing well until last week which was the week from HELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Went to a funeral of a good friend on Wednesday who battled cancer for years but lost the battle - she was 58, then Friday morning my sister's husband passed away very suddenly so I've been helping her as much as I can. He was only 63. He'll be buried on Saturday. As I said, been a hell of a week.
My daughter has been a gem and looking after the horses so that is a huge help. I'm going to go to the barn on Sunday just to clear my mind and take some "me and my pony" time. Those of you have horses, or have had them, will understand.

Snowing here today, doesn't look like it will amount to much, but I'm longing to see some warmer temps.

SifuPhil - your picture cracked me up so thanks for that!!!

Just read what I have written here and it sounds like a train wreck, but we are all coping and looking forward to some down time. Take care my friends, and seriously - live every day to the fullest as you never know what will happen tomorrow.

Welcome back TICA...always nice to have another horse lover around. Oh my you really have been through the wringer. My condolences on your friend and family losses, you've certainly had your share of grief. What you said about living each day to the fullest is so true. Sometimes we lose sight of that until something happens to drive it home again.

I fully understand what you mean about the horses. When I was out riding or in the barn grooming or doing horse chores, it was like all problems were left at the barn door and I was in another world. I spent many hours talking to my horses or crying into their manes. They always seemed to quietly understand my unhappiness. I always left them feeling better about the world...I miss them.

The hardest thing to cope with is having both work and personal problems come down on you at the same time. Sometimes it feels like there is no escape. I can't give any advice here, as we all have to cope with it in our own way. Just know there are some good people on the forum that are here for moral support and can surely give you a laugh at times(Think Phil). :D It sounds like you have a great daughter that is willing to step up and help.....hang in there until Sunday when you can get your horsie fix. That will help give you a mental adjustment!

Sincere sympathy for the loss of your friend and brother in law, that's so sad, and quite the one two punch for you I'm sure. :love_heart: Great that your daughter's there for you to help out, and hope things are moving along well with your work. (((hugs)))
 
Thanks to both of you. Work is work and happily, almost over. June 1st is my official first day as a retiree so there are better times ahead for sure. It has been a trying time, but I'm OK and as Ozarkgal said, we all cope in our own way. I can tell you my house has never been cleaner as I feel the need to keep busy. My family and or course the animals are a great comfort. One of my dogs is amazing and seems to sense when I'm down. He'll climb on my lap and snuggle. He's about 67 lbs and thinks he is a lap dog so it makes me laugh, and of course, my horse is a character too and can't wait to see him. My daughter came home last night with the dirtiest face she has ever had. Apparently the horses had rolled in the mud so when she brushed them, the dirt went all over her. She looked like a little kid which was too funny as she is actually 32. Between the cats, dogs and horses and of course family, I feel very blessed indeed. And lets not forget you guys!!! Thanks again.
