Back to the future - double decker buses

As a kid, I loved riding in a double decker bus, which I did every day to school for two years.

Now the NSW government is planning to bring them back as people movers in the city.

:woohoo1:

Too bad I'm no longer game to climb the stairs of a moving bus to get to the top deck.

Who else remembers these giants of the past?

Not the past, but still very much the present, here in the UK. Not only down in London where I used to live, but up here, north of the border as well. I love travelling up on the top deck. And my free bus pass allows me to travel all over Scotland.

The last 2 decker we rode on was a sightseeing bus in Sydney around 1989.

Las Vegas has a bunch of big fancy double deck buses to ferry all the tourists along the strip, from casino to casino. They run every 10 minutes, or so, and cost a fraction of taking a taxi.

The newest London double decker bus. The 'Boris bus'. So called, because it's design was instigated by the then mayor of London Boris Johnson. I managed to get one ride in one (top deck at the front) just before I moved to Scotland.

Same here where I live down in North East Essex, we still have double decker buses and I can travel all over England with my free bus pass.:)

I rode one of these in London, front seat top left. Wonderful view of rush-hour London from Westminster to King's Cross!

Ah! The Routemaster! A beautiful bus. I loved those. I've got a couple in my model collection still to be posted. I also knew the 15 route very well. The very last route to use them. As all other routes have gone over to rear engined 'biscuit tins'!

The Boris bus is pretty unique, not only in appearance but also the fact that it has 3 doors and 2 flights of stairs. As well as a Hybrid engine. They are however getting a mixed reception by some of the provincial bus companies.
