Bacon

How do you cook your bacon? It‘s BLT sandwich season.

Mine never seems to get nice and crispy in the fry pan.

Did the oven method today. Takes too long. I cook it about 7/8 done and then rewarm in the microwave.

Thinking of going back to just a few slices wrapped in paper towel in the microwave.

I used to always grill bacon ( do you call it broiling ?)... but now I fry it.. . Brits on the whole don't like bacon crispy... but on the occasion that I want it crispy, I fry it Dry...in no oil at all.. and put a lid on the pan. It always crisps it up very quickly.

ETA I find using non cured ( unsmoked bacon) is best

I've tried all of the above with good results.

IMO the best way for me is to bake off a pound of bacon on a rack over a cookie sheet in the oven until crispy and then freeze the individual slices in a plastic container.

To use the slices in a sandwich or on a burger you don't really need to thaw them.

A peanut butter and bacon sandwich is hard to beat!

I'm curious to know if any of you have had good results using the fully cooked bacon available in the markets.

I love the fully cooked bacon that Kroger has. I put a few pieces on a paper towel. Cover with a piece of towel and nuke for 15 seconds. Perfect every time!!

put bacon slices into a large pan covered in aluminum foil - spread out large slices of onions & a sprinkling of minced garlic, put the bacon on top - let it roast and in only about 20 or so the bacon will be crispy while the grease will cook the condiments

toast your bread or slice Italian bread or bagels and roast briefly in the oven, add lettuce & Italian salad dressing with some mayo and ...

you get a YUMMY sandwich!!!

For most things, just to add flavor i use packaged real bacon bits. It enhances the flavor of scrambled eggs, potato salad, regular salads, we often add them to packaged cook at home Pizza's. But when i'm wanting strips, usually only for my BAT (Bacon, Avocodo, and Tomato) summer sandwiches, i usually make them in oven.

Any of you use bacon in a quiche?
I made one today.
Saute bacon and chopped onions. In a bowl, 4 eggs, cream, can diced green chilies, shredded cheese, the bacon and onions, and bake it all at 350 a half hour in a pre-baked crust. Oh! I added thyme and herbs de Provence.
I kinda liked it!

I do. Small chunks of fried potato are good in them too.

that's a regular staple in this house, Bacon and egg Quiche....I've been making it since my mid 40's daughter was a toddler , and still making it 20 years after she left home ... :giggle:
