Beets and Blood Pressure

My systolic blood pressure tends to run a bit high. I've always been told that beets reduce blood pressure. I've always hated beets. Can't stand the taste. A couple of years ago I purchased a case of beet juice, and although it wasn't bad I just couldn't work a bottle into my daily routine.

So, I was at the health food store and found Super Beets by Humann. They are gummies that supposedly offer twice the blood pressure efficacy of other types of supplements. They are delicious. I just take 2 each day. I haven't checked my blood pressure yet, but I'm hoping the claim is true.

Have any of you tried beet supplements, and if so, did you find that they actually helped reduce blood pressure?

It’s being pushed for leg blood circulation now, of which I have none. Ads for it’s wonders are popping up everywhere, which makes me suspicious.

I also hate beets. My Grandma Rose would say “Come the Revolution we all eat borscht.” Ugh.

Hopefully it works for you Dougie. Please let us know ok?

I googled it and beets do help with high blood pressure but you need to consumer regularly. Also spinach, celery and leafy greens help. Food does not take the place of meds prescribed for your doctor. The gummies are only good if your blood pressure is already in the normal range.

Regular exercise and reduced stress are recommended for regulating blood pressure.

When I was married, my stress level was high and so was my blood pressure. Once my wife passed away and my finances were put in order, my blood pressure reads normal. And I don't even exercise.

All supplements are unproven and they include the word "may" in their claims of effectiveness.

The difference between those who purchase supplements vs those who do not, is that those who do not buy them, die with those dollars still available for real necessities in life.

Supplements only provide a modest reduction in blood pressure, which may not be enough to reach safe levels. I tried all sorts of supplements for my blood pressure without achieving the desired result, then finally resorted to Lisinopril (prescription) which kept BP in an acceptable range for years. Recently, I've had further adjustments and still struggle to keep it in range.

For me at least - and I can't speak for others - high BP seems to advance with age.

I take Super Beets daily. I feel they help along with other measures.... Certainly doesn’t hurt any to just put them in your daily routine.

I love pickled diced beets on a salad. Also beets roasted in the oven. If I don’t have fresh beets I use a can of plain beets, usually the quartered ones. Drain, but don’t rinse. Pat them with a paper towel to remove some moisture. Add little olive oil and whatever seasoning you want. roast in oven at 400F . 15-20 ish minutes.

I have no idea if they help with blood pressure.

No need for the gummies, I love beets. Steamed or baked all by themselves works for me or pickled. But, like @MountainRa they are a favorite item in salads for me too.

My husband had sky high Blood Pressure for 5 yrs. On a medication then started a 2nd one. He was so tired and felt awful all the time. One day, he couldn't feel his arm. Scary. I started having Tremors. I was falling apart too. After 30 days of 2 scoops of beetroot powder in the morning & evening, on day 30, his BP finally lowered. A week later, he accidentally took an extra 2 scoops at night forgetting he already did. He got woozy! His BP was too low, we loved it! My resting tremors are gone but they can pop back up. Stress and lack of sleep or junk food. We cut carbs/sugar 50% & got back on the bike 3x a week cycling up a hill for 45 min. More energy and lost about 10 lbs each.

I understand beets can cause kidney stones. I tell my husband to drink lemon water with it but he won't. My son had a stone the side of a quarter. He drank lemon water I brought to him 3x a day, it broke it up to the size of the tip of an ink pen. Dr. said don't bother to come back, all should be good

I have no issues with Super Beets, and I’ve been taking them daily for a couple years…. for myself, I take them in place of prescription blood pressure meds ….
BP is normal.
