Being charged for bills and statements

I don't think the printers on the market these days are compatible with my OS. I've had people give me printers and none of them worked with my system.

One of my banks started charging $2 per account for paper monthly statements. I withdrew all the money from savings and took it to my other bank that still sends paper statements. The checking account in the first bank I'll keep for awhile I think as long as I get paper statements. At least I'm getting a service when they process the checks, where with savings they were loaning my cash out and making money and charging me for it.

My auto insurance company wants to force me to begin online payments. They didn't send a payment stub this time and no return envelope so I'd break down and start using auto pay. I wrote out a check and also wrote out a return envelope to put the check in, haha. If it doesn't get there on time they threaten me with fees. Because I'm not their friend, I'm going to make them handle checks for a little while yet. Remember way back when the bank used to send you your actual cancelled checks with your statement? That was a long time ago.

At least they're still sending them to you. I did my tax return on paper and mailed it in. Then I waited several months to receive the assessment (official summary), which I needed.

Finally I phoned. They said my assessment had been "available online" for months! Unbelievable.
I would have in my best quavery old lady voice told them I didn't know what online was.

I love getting statements online and signed up for them. I hate killing trees just to get paper bills that get thrown away. Such a waste.
Yes, it is so much easier to organize statements, bills, cancelled checks, documents, data and other important "papers" in properly designated folders on the computer hard drive or portable drive than with actual paper.

I noticed I have an added charge to my electric bill - for receiving a paper bill. This just started. When I called I was told that it costs money to prepare, print and mail the monthly statement and I should just print it out from the company's website. I said I don't have a printer. The reply - then you'll have to pay for a paper bill.

Similarly, my investment company notified me that to get my 1099 form, I'd have to go to their web site, open my account (or create one if I don't have one) and print it. A call informed me that they could send me a paper bill for a $5 fee.

Sheeesh....
I have noticed this trend and find it very irritating.

Here's an interesting twist on this thread. All my utilities bills are autopay out of my checking account except my water bill. That comes as a monthly snail mail statement paid in return by personal check. Why is that you may ask? The water company wants to charge me $2.50 US/month for me to auto pay. Go figure. USPS postage and cost of a paper check beats that charge by at least $1.50 US/month. At least for now.

My bank prefers online statements, but I don't think they charge for paper ones. My previous electric company cave a discount for paperless statements and correspondence. I prefer paperless statements. I can either save the documents myself, or access any of them via the bank's website.

I had difficulty setting up my printer on my new Dell laptop. Just couldn't get it to work using USB, but it works brilliantly when I set it up as a 'network' (WiFi) printer. Much better - I don't even have to be in the same room to print.

I bought a new MG 2522 Canon Pixma printer a year or two ago. It works with my desktop running Win 7. It is wired into my computer. Printers are a pain to get working and ink is expensive. I have to remove the cartridges after each use, put them in zip-top bags and keep them in the frig or they dry out and are useless, blah.

I actually like the online payment with my credit card for the car and renters insurance. That is always the one bill I was paranoid about. Wanted to be 100% assured they received it. Especially the car insurance, because I don't want to be without that. So I make the payment online and it's confirmed. Should anything else get lost in the mail or forgotten for a month, it's not that big of a deal.

"I have gotten to the point of hating to pay bills by check and mail. It seems such a laborious process to write the check, enter it in the checkbook, address an envelope, put on the return address sticker, add the stamp.

Did I mention I’m getting very lazy?"

No, @Myrtle
Why do you ask that?

Kaila, that is not what I told you to say!

You were supposed to assure me that I wasn't getting lazy!

That is why I bought a Laser printer, I got tired of using half an ink cartridge just to clean the heads,
