Beliefs - a question

I don't believe in bigfoot but I do believe in God. Many believe science does not support the existence of either. And they would be right.

So why do people believe what they do? Do you have beliefs not supported by science? Just curious. Be nice. No people bashing. OK?

I wonder if we have a "spirit" but I don't have a firm belief about that. I believe I've encountered a spirit, but I'm not sure. I was emotional and very stressed at the time. That's the only thing I can think of (about myself).

I don't know why people believe what they do. Maybe for some it's hopefulness?

Some people are superstitious, like with the man who lives in the unit next to mine who doesn't allow his daughters to own life-like dolls because he believes they embody a demon. And then you've got people who are too impressionable or gullible, and others who are fearful by nature, so they're easily scared and need to cling to something that makes them feel safe.

When you look around and see the complexity of the universe, at so many levels, do folks believe that just happened by accident or coincidence?
I agree with you. I have always known and believed I was an "old soul" and in God. I felt it as a child and still do at this age. I felt the need to learn more so I was and still am drawn to different ideas of different people, cultures and thinkings. So I continue to read, ask questions and form my opinions of God. Consider myself more spiritual than "religious".

I don't believe we will ever find undeniable evidence that many things exist. The universe has a past so old, we have no way of knowing what true history is. And, on this planet, we haven't dug down deep enough to know what civilizations were here before us. There could be some that were much more advanced than we are now.

All we can do is stay open to any possibility. And when something formally unknown comes to light, marvel at what we can learn from it.

You mean archeologists finding the skeletal remains in the Loch Ness region? But how would we know the remains are Nessie? It could be something else though not likely.
Scientists claim to have finally found a “plausible theory” for sightings of the Loch Ness Monster. She’s not an aquatic reptile left over from the Jurassic era or a circus elephant that got in the water to bathe with her trunk aloft. If Nessie ever existed at all, she was most likely a giant eel according to a new scientific survey of the loch

A belief is a human idea. It exists only in the mind. Religions are beliefs that fulfill a human need, like rain, wishes, desires, eternal life, etc. Science determines how nature works. Science can only evaluate a belief, if the belief deals with nature.
I've come to feel that having a belief does not necessarily mean that the belief is true.

Right....many beliefs are not necessarily true. The thing about science that is so fascinating is it keeps coming up with new revelations. Problems occur in some scientific studies that have to be corrected later...so we can't always count on science either

If as a scientist, you study all forms of life on earth, past and present. There is one are that science has yet to discover about all of that life. Where and what is the actual source of the 'life' in every cell? Everything that is 'alive' has this special spark that makes it live. If it loses that life, that spark, it stops living as we know it. If you really think about this fact, then you will find why I believe in God. At the very beginning something or someone had to put that little 'spark' as I call it within the earliest form of life. That to me the proof we all seek...it is all around us and within our own mind!

I have read a few studies where science has developed a hypothesis of how an organic chemical reaction could create this spark of life. It was interesting but they had no data or experiments that would even answer what the spark of life really is. So, the more I read, the more I was convinced they really don't know...

But since we don't know everything, one day science may prove things that some of us have believed for a long time and others will say they were right all along. Science just hadn't advanced enough at the time. It's a possibility.

Science once said that the Sun revolved around the Earth and it was blasphemy to say otherwise.

I believe in God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit = Trinity. There is too much proof of His existence. I have prayed and witnessed miracles and am alive because of one. I try and keep an open mind. I have accepted the idea that we will never know all the answers of the universe, including the Loch Ness. Whether we know it or not does not change the fact that it existed or it didn't. If you think about it, we are only a speck in this vast universe, but a giant in our own universe (at least that's how I see it). We need to see the perspective. Also, not everything fits in a tidy box of categories or can be proven by scientific methods. There will be some ambiguity and chaos in all of this.

Beliefs, trusting your gut, going with what feels right. Acting on one's beliefs, learning something you trusted and believed in was false.
Beliefs learned and beliefs changed, all from the life experiences we go through. Continuing as our days go by.
I guess that's the skinny and try to do the best we can for now..
