We can't discuss politics in this forum, but religion can spark as much controversy. I wonder whey that topic is allowed.
I don't think they do that here. In the atheist thread they're quite respectful. Why do people who hate God and everything that has to do with Christianity often jump into threads about it and begin to spread their hatred? They obviously are not invited, according to the posts' titles and purposes, but they come in and begin to pollute the conversations between people who desire to learn, grow and enjoy Christian fellowship.
Sometimes they act like trolls, pretending to be interested but they don't offer anything constructive, just destruction. And unlike YTube, we can't delete them. That's one of the major reasons that I think it wouldn't work. And I rarely see Christians going into any Pagan or Atheist threads to wreak havoc through hatred. That's probably one of the reasons that they go merrily along for some time.![]()
I think you should give it a GO, Mitch.
Get it started and let the journey begin.
Same here... but I think if it's started, the host or hostess would need to set rules about things like song videos and other videos because not everyone enjoys those. Not sure how to keep it at discussion only.I don't feel experienced enough to host one but add my name if anyone does please.
Maybe because so much evil in the world rises out of religious fanaticism. Why do people who hate God and everything that has to do with Christianity often jump into threads about it and begin to spread their hatred?
I don't think that's going out on a limb at all... I was thinking the same.I am going to step out on the limb and suggest something.
To avoid confusion and keep things focused on the study material
may I suggest keeping all posts to - our own words only.
No videos, no Google or AI pastes. All our own words our own thoughts?
We can vote if you like.
I don't know who this is. Youtube recommended it. He says: This world does not want to hear what you have to say if you don't have love. Because your God says: Without this love all you're going to be to them is an irritating noise.Maybe because so much evil in the world rises out of religious fanaticism.
Christianity is the enabler of people who cause so much pain and suffering in the world today, so why shouldn't people be critical of it? Jesus would be highly critical of many of his followers if he were alive today.
That said, I like the current Pope. He speaks out against the wrongs going on in the world -- even if it's not politically expedient for him to do so.
Actually that came from Paul..I don't know who this is. Youtube recommended it. He says: This world does not want to hear what you have to say if you don't have love. Because your God says: Without this love all you're going to be to them is an irritating noise.
1 Corinthians 13
Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal.
Since this has been chosen as a Bible Study how do you study the Bible with religions that do not use the Bible? Won't you have to alsoBible study isn't necessarily a Christian activity. Interesting how that has become the presumption throughout this thread.
I don't mind religious threads on SF as long as it's as fully inclusive as all other SF threads, meaning others are welcome to express opinions.
Indeed, if a Christian thread appears, it would be equally good to see Islamic, Jewish and Buddhist threads. I don't know a single person who couldn't benefit from having greater love, tolerance and understanding for everyone, regardless of their religion.
As the OP said he'd like it to be about 'Bible Study,' why should there be ANY 'debate'?Since this is an open forum, I think any topic should expect some controversy. I donāt see why those who are interested in the proposed bible study group canāt participate but at the same time, should expect diverse or contradictory comments from others who are not there to spread hate, but to genuinely acquire a different perspective from the one they may have. I donāt see anything wrong with a good debate as long as itās kept civil and doesnāt undermine someoneās beliefs. Go for it Mitch.
Jews also study the Bible, particularly the Old Testament, but most faithful Jews are quite well-versed in the NT, as well.Since this has been chosen as a Bible Study how do you study the Bible with religions that do not use the Bible? Won't you have to also
include their Books as well to have inclusion? Wouldn't that be counterproductive to the goal of it and confusing at the same time?
I am trying to understand.
