Bike ride! 45 miles. Isle of Bute, Scotland

Had an incredibly lovely day today on our bike ride. Drove to a spot and parked the car, rode 14 miles to a ferry and took it over to the Isle of Bute. I hadn't been since a short trip in 2001 so it was really new to me. Loved it.

Lots of green fields, some with wildflowers, beaches, roads lined with maiflowers and deep yellow gorse. The bluebells are still out since May was cold. They should have been gone by now. There were lots of beautiful Victorian homes, many were mansions. Lots of farmhouses. Sheep, lambs, horses, highland cows.

I didn't take a lot of photos and I'm sorry I didn't bring my real camera. It's difficult to see what I'm photographing with my phone camera. But here are some of the ones I took.

There are a LOT of good bike trails in Scotland. We're planning on many including the Oban to Fort William and some from Inverness. Haven't been to Galloway yet.

Absolutely gorgeous, AS, love the greens, hills and especially the sheep. Thanks for sharing - the pictures are very good. Sounds like a great bike trip.

Pretty area. Did you pedal 45 miles? That's a lot. I've been riding my bike on the coast for the last 2 weeks, about 15 mile a day. The first week not hard at all, but the last 3 days the humidity has been tough.

Thanks all! Yes it's very green as it rains a lot.

Yes, I pedaled 45 miles and some of it was very hilly. However, I was on my new electric bike which means I get help from a big battery, especially going uphill. I can't stop pedaling but the battery makes is sooooo much easier. I could not have done this on my normal bike, not without a lot of sweating and whining.

It was not hot here. It hit about 60, was mostly cloudy until later in the afternoon. Breezy, but not windy.

Thanks. I didn't realise this was such a pretty island, especially the old homes. I'll get photos of some of the houses next time. My husband taught on this island in the 80s.

Looks beautiful! My only stay in Scotland was in Moffat, Dumfries & Galloway a few years back and loved it. Would love to be able to explore Scotland much more.

DW I am very grateful for my health and will stay as fit as I can for as long as I can. My intense spin bike workouts at the gym 3 times a week make it easier for real bike rides!

Pam, you should visit west Scotland and the isles!
