Bill To Get Rid of NFL Tax Exempt Status

Tax exempt status? On what grounds?
They're hardly charities or not for profit community organisations in any sense that I would understand?

Now I'm wondering about our big sports associations.

Without going into detail it goes back to the 1960s and tv contracts believe it or not. They try to pass themselves off as a trade union promoting the sport. But besides the money that goes to or through the NFL itself they also administrate or manage the league. If they were just "promoting" the sport or NFL they would not be doing things like suspending players which is an administrative function. The teams themselves should be handling ALL discipline if the NFL is a "trade union".

Actually, Congress gave the NFL tax-free status and also non-profit status as well. And to make matters worse, the NFL also has antitrust status. It just cannot get better than that. I really do not believe that Congress will ever take away their tax-free status as long as they have their lobbyists and keep greasing the palms that they have done for so many years. Many members of Congress have benefited greatly from the NFL's willingness to compensate those members that keep the NFL safe from those that want to "change things."
