Black Friday anyone?

Is anyone here camping out in line for big sales tomorrow? Going shopping? I'm not and hope I don't have to leave the house for a few days. As I said somewhere else on here, I only buy gifts for our youngest granddaughter and mail them to her, everyone else gets a card with $ and/or lotto scratchers.

I do think it's fun to walk around the big malls in So. Calif. this time of year and just enjoy the excitement and the lights but I hate the traffic getting there and trying to find a parking place. And I'm not the one driving.

I'll pass Linda, always do. We don't really buy gifts anymore for Christmas. I'm not into shopping at all, if I need something at the mall, I get in and get out quickly. I definitely don't like shopping with large crowds around, even avoid weekends now that I'm retired. Was joking with hubby that I would need my pepper spray and other 'equalizers' just for self defense. :D Traffic is also a bear at the malls this time of year, hate it really.

Same here, SeaBreeze. The stores are 35-40 miles away and the good ones are in Waco, which is 65 miles. We have quiet and meaningful holiday celebrations without the masses of folks and travel. And, after many years of living in the woods, I have got to where I really don't like to drive in traffic. A few years ago an old pal of mine was joking with me about the fact "that I have fallen out of the mainstream of society" and I really can't agree with him or deny it either.

You couldn't pay me to get in that mess and I LOVE to browse in the stores regardless if I buy anything. I love to browse when I don't have to worry about being pushed, shoved and who knows what and from what I've seen on the news, it leads to that sometimes or close anyway.

Been there, done that, but years ago. Last time was to buy a Macbook Pro for my son, who was spending his last Christmas with us before departing for his new life in England. Got to the mall when they opened, around 5 AM, walked into the store, bought a computer and walked out. No need now. Everyone is scattered across the country and overseas, so I can buy what I want online.

Quiet is good, wish we lived in a more rural area away from the crowds...falling out of the mainstream, sounds good to me!

OH No...not a chance would I be going anywhere near those Black friday sales. I like to shop generally...browse casually around the Malls when I get the time...but there is No chance I would go shopping on the day when it's turned into a Gladiator sport...:eek:mg1:...anyway mostly I don't need any of that stuff...and if I did there's a very good chance I'd still be able to get it online even cheaper than in the so called Sale..

Fern, they've started calling the day after Thanksgiving "Black Friday" and it's become quite a hectic shopping day with a few people getting trampled and injured.

Holly, we do a lot of our shopping online now too.

Nope, everyone I know has been naughty, so no gifts for them. :D Even if I were doing any shopping for gifts, I wouldn't dream of shopping amidst that craziness. I don't ever recall myself going shopping the day after Thanksgiving anyway. If anything, I have waited till the night before Christmas or even after.

The madness of Black Friday here is that we caught the 'bug' from America about 4 years ago ...and as you say Linda they are supposed to be Post Thanksgiving Sales... but we don't celebrate Thanksgiving here obviously , and apart from eating turkey (which we do at Christmas) we don't have anything remotely resembling Thanksgiving day...so instead they are trying to imply that Black Friday Sales in the UK are Pre Christmas sales...Nonsense really, because here in the UK we have Huge Boxing day sales, and January sales..all Post Christmas...

It's just another way of getting people to part with a lot of money for stuff they don't need, twice in one month!!

No way Jose !

Anytime I need something from Walmart I go around 5 or 6 a.m. to avoid the people.

Same thing at Home Depot and Lowes I'll be there when the doors open to avoid folks.

Real good places to pick up the flu "bug" are where those crowds are trampling each other! imp

It was the day of the big sale. Rumors of the sale (and some advertising in the local paper) were the main reason for the long line that formed by 8:30, the store’s opening time, in front of the store.

A small man pushed his way to the front of the line, only to be pushed back, amid loud and colorful curses.

On the man’s second attempt, he was punched square in the jaw, and knocked around a bit, and then thrown to the end of the line again.

As he got up the second time, he said to the person at the end of the line…

“That does it! If they hit me one more time, I won’t open the store!

That was funny SeaBreeze! :) The poor guy.

Can you forgive me for posting on this on Hot Topics? It would mean a lot to me, especially as we kick off the grabbing, grunting, grunging, and, perhaps, a little groping season...

I order online and get good prices and great deals. I have never done the Black Friday thing. I don't need/want that kind of excitement. I use to really hit the post Christmas sales for Christmas stuff..which is why I probably still have ornaments with price tags on them. :bigwink:

Yesterday I was shopping in an ASDA store, they are owned by Walmart.

I was speaking to a cashier who I am friendly with and she told me that
that the stuff they are selling are all end of line or else things that nobody
wants.

Mike.
