Oy, that it's always something...I read somewhere that there's a curse in Japanese that roughly translates to "May you have an interesting life"...meaning May you have so much drama...well sucks to be you. I was at one of the busiest intersections in the rain, with my daughter. The light turned red and my car wouldn't stop.

Fortunately I had the presence to throw it into park. But jeez, they tell you to aim towards something with give like bushes or a wire fence. That is not helpful advice when you're on an incline aimed towards heavy traffic and surrounded by brick buildings. I was afraid to steer it into the nearest driveway.

The blessing came in the police car we flagged down. The one cop I felt sorry for. I'm 5'4 and you should have seen this poor man trying to squeeze into my drivers seat. But he did it and said the brakes were completely gone. Earlier today I was on the highway. I don't even want to imagine...so yeah, we were lucky.

Oh and on the walk home we found the most awesome cat statue somebody had put out for trash...

How terrifying!

The only time my brakes ever failed, I was driving a stick shift on a flat stretch of road so was able to downshift to slow down, and then either coasted to a stop when I got to where the road started to go uphill, or maybe I pulled on the emergency brake.

Scary stuff, fur .. and, I'm glad you and your daughter are safe.

The scariest time for me, was when I hit black ice. You have to just steer and not try to brake. I did the right thing, but, it shook me up when I thought of the outcome if I'd been in an intersection, highway, or heavy traffic.

Yeah I remember back in the day when I was a fearless teen driver...I barreled through the park and hit ice. Ended up spinning around and ending up in a snow bank, saved again there...plus a bunch of joggers who helped push me out. But man losing control of your car is one of the scariest things out there.

Yeah, it is. It happened to me once in a bad rainstorm on a hill. Tried to slow down going down and suddenly no brakes at all. Scary as hell.

So glad you are safe. I remember when my son was very small and you were allowed to sit in the car with no seat belt. I had him on my lap and my husband was driving. My son was kicking his feet and hit the shift into reverse. We were on a busy highway. The car was swerving but my husband had the presence of mind to figure out what had happened and immediately put it back in drive. I would never had thought of that had I been driving. That cat statue will be a reminder of what happened to you the day you found it and a remembrance of how lucky you were. I think you should name him Lucky or Blessing.

Fur, glad you and your daughter were blessed!! That dark cloud that seems to be following you really needs to go away!! You deserve a break.

So you are going to post a pic of the cat statue for us, right?
Just needs some paint touch up and then finding a spot for it in the yard, pics to come:)

OMG, how scary! Glad you are all okay! Curious why you didn't use your emergency brake?
Ya know now that you mention it...I forgot there was an emergency brake, never had to use it before.

What a lovely idea...The Blessing Cat

How frightening. Yes, you were blessed. Something similar happened to me when my boys were very young. Going down a steep hill, called One Mile Hill. Coming to red light at a busy intersection at bottom of hill, braked......and no brakes. Told my boys to lay down, down shifted, leaned on my horn, praying. So wanted to just close my eyes. Thankfully the oncoming traffic light turned red.....and after getting through the intersection I gradually slowed way down. My house was just about a mile away....so drove really slow. Still have flash backs about this scare.

Exactly, I have a stone miniature on my desk of an Egyptian cat. This one is maybe three feet high, don't know if she's plaster or stone. She'll be like our Buddha, he comes in for the winter and comes out every Spring.
