The human remains found in suitcases bought as part of an auction for abandoned goods in a storage unit in South Auckland are two young children.

The NZ Herald reported earlier today from several sources that the remains are two young children, which was later confirmed to reporters by Detective Inspector Tofilau Faamanuia Vaaelua.

He said the bodies - found at a Manurewa property on August 11 are two children - are primary school-aged, as ascertained by the post-mortem report.

Early indications are that the children could have been deceased for a number of years before being found, he told journalists this afternoon.

Vaaelua said he understands the discovery will be deeply upsetting for the community.

Police are still in the early stages of their investigation, he explained, but the children appear to have been dead for a number of years.

Police are following “positive lines of inquiry” in terms of the storage unit rental, Vaaelua said.

He said the children were aged between 5 and 10 and police were working on establishing when and where they died.

Full Story

So very horrible.

The relatives of children discovered dead in two separate suitcases that was bought at storage auction have been found living in Asia by police.

On Friday, the newspaper also confirmed local officers and working with Interpol. 'We've commenced inquiries with overseas agencies. I cannot state any further than that,' Vaaelua said.

Inspector Vaaelua said on Thursday that CCTV would be analysed but admitted police were in for a challenge, given the length of time the bodies were stored for.

He added: 'The nature of this discovery provides some complexities to the investigation especially given the time lapsed between the time of death and the time of discovery.

'A lot of us (in the police) are parents and we have a job to do and we're doing our very best to identify the victims.

'What I can say is we are making very good progress with DNA inquiries.

The case has been virtually solved. The Asian father, reported to be Korean, died a few years ago from cancer, while living here, the two children were between 5 years and 12 years old, been in the trunks for 2-3 years. The hunt is now on for their mother.

Thank God, Finally Justice!

A woman believed to be the mother of two children whose bodies were found in suitcases in New Zealand has broken her silence following her arrest.

New Zealand Police confirmed the 42-year-old was arrested in South Korea on Thursday in connection to the children’s murders, following the discovery of their remains last month.

“South Korean authorities arrested the woman on a Korean arrest warrant pursuant to two charges of murder relating to the two young victims,” Detective Inspector Tofilau Faamanuia Vaaelua said.

”NZ Police have applied to have her extradited back to New Zealand to face the charges and have requested she remains in custody while awaiting the completion of the extradition process.

“In the meantime, there is a number of inquiries to be completed both in New Zealand and overseas.”

The woman, who has not been identified, was arrested in the early hours of Thursday (local time) in the southeastern city of Ulsan, 300km from the capital Seoul, a South Korean police official told CNN.

She was seen covering her face with her coat as officers escorted her from an Ulsan police station to a car to be driven to Seoul.

Speaking out for the first time, the woman flatly denied the murder allegations when asked by local media if she would confess.

“I didn’t do it,” she repeatedly told reporters, according to Yonhap News Agency.

The police official confirmed the arrested woman is the same woman who, according to earlier police reports, was believed to be the children’s mother and who had arrived in South Korea several years ago and had not departed the country since.

There's not much more disturbing than to hear of the murder of young children :(
I hope the guilty person/s is/are found.

I know , I'm stating the obvious ..... to the choir but .... damn, there are so many , just evil people in this world.

There is a huge trial going on just east of here , where four members of one family, murdered eight members of another family over the custody of a baby born between them.

Unbelievable !!!!!!
