Body Tatoos/Piercings. Accepted my some and not by others. Your thoughts?

I've noticed on many topics- including this one- that the approaches, reasons, etc. I was familiar with in many other locations are much different in this location.
In other places I lived where tattoos were popular, people obtained them because a tattoo had some kind of special meaning to them, or, in some cases, simply because they liked artistic designs.

In this location, though, similar to virtually everything else, it's generally a matter of 'thumbing their nose at society,' presenting themselves as outrageously as possible and then claiming nobody can 'judge' them, in other words everything's a matter of wanting to 'get away with' something.
Personally I don't care, but I do have difficulty coping with 'lifestyle differences.'

As one example, there were two young women who obtained professionally-done tattoos then known as 'tramp stamps.' Both of these girls routinely yanked their pants down in public to show off the tattoos. I don't care if anyone considers me a 'prude,' that type of behavior is disgusting.

As for piercings, I don't like them unless they're limited to an earring in ears. Quantities of earrings, or other body piercings bother me, but I wouldn't say so. Ditto with individuals who drive nails etc. through their ears.

It depends on the tattoos of course - some are beautiful and some aren't.

I think I have mentioned mastectomy tattoos on here before, a friend of mine had one done after she had breast cancer and I can totally understand why she decided to get one.

I don't have any tattoos but, if I did, it would be to mark something meaningful in my life.

Many guys in the Navy got tattoos......I chose not to. Personal choice but some of those 60 year old ink jobs look pretty sad today.

I still have the same number of holes in my body that I came with. Mostly I ignore what folks choose to have done but I think some nose piercings make the person look like they need to wipe away mucus.

Don't like them at all. I guess they remind about those natives from New Zealand with their tongues stuck out at you. Also reminds of cannabals putting some "great white hunter" in the pot. Ear plugs and nose rings and those awful lip rings tells me that those urbanites are not happy with their lives. Somehow, they hope that all this body piercing will get them some attention of some sort. Trouble is that they are just following all the other people with the same problems. We are suppose to live in some sort of democracy so people can do what they want with their bodies. However, they say, "beauty is in the eyes of the beholder." Trouble is these days I see "ugly as sin" a bit too often. Like I said often, it's not my "cup of tea."

No tattoos. Don't be like a guy I worked with. Had some girls name tattooed on his arm. I think they broke up within a month. Can you say tattoo cover up? BEFORE he finds a new girlfriend?

I had 4 ear peircings in each ear in my 20's and had the top ones reopened in my 30's but I don't wear 4 earrings anymore.

I remember the woman I got my kittens from off Craig's list. Met her at a Walmart parking lot. She was nice but hadn't got her cat fixed but she had a number of tattoos. I thought she had money for those but not for the cat. I also offered to help her get the mother cat fixed but never heard back from her.

I don't mind a few tattoos, the full sleeve thing is unsightly in my opinion. I can't help but think some have 'buyer's remorse' over excessive tattooing. Piercings? Not for me, I don't like sharp stuff, makes me cringe.
That said, I am considering putting a store bought tattoo over an unsightly tattoo on my forearm that I did, at age 15. Since my Chinese Zodiac sign is the Water Dragon I think something like one of these would be cool:

The only thing I've had done was basic piercings for earrings. That caused me to develop an allergy to nickel, which is in most jewelry. So now I can't wear any jewelry that touches my skin, not even a wedding ring.

What other people do to themselves usually doesn't bother me, but the nose rings cause me to reflexively look away, the way I would anytime I encountered someone with something hanging out of their nose.

I had the proverbial "COOL DUDE" earing in my left ear while hanging out in Harlem in the 50's until I saw a hype pull one out of a guys ear. Also betwixt and between marriages a girl friend wanted me to get a tattoo of a scorpion. I passed because of the associated pain involved and well so because some time later when I moved to the appendix of America I actually got stung by one.

On with the show:

I pretty much draw the line at nose rings/studs/bones
Have trouble maintaining a cognizant conversation
Gives me 'the stares'
Keep waiting for 'em to sneeze or something

I know I couldn't maintain one
Have enough trouble keeping nose hairs at bay

Gave serious thought to a ring in my ear
A sorta pirate thing
....aaaand a parrot on my shoulder
yeah
An eye patch would come into play
Maybe a trip to the Carribean

'Argh'

Then the song stopped

Wasn't there some kind of weird backstory to that song? Something about Eric spilling some wine into a Frisco recording studio mixer? I gotta look that one up.
