Bottled Water vs Filtered Water

Lest I forget. I find it rather strange to see people, (it's usually women, sorry!) sucking on water bottles every few minutes like they were going to die without the constant intake of water. I can go for hours without water & have done so walking a lot of cities in this world. They make me think of little babies sucking on their sodders (spelling). Sorry for this negative comment but it is really very true!
It's all part of the image. People want to be seen to be trendy. A celeb sets a trend and the sheep copy.

I'm told my ancestors drank from a dirty hoof print.

I usually get my water from the refrigerator water dispenser. It is filtered only through the GE filter in the fridge.

LOL, same for me. Being the anti-fad contrarian, and having invested $4,000 into my well, I savor every drop. Selling bottled water in America has to be the biggest scam ever invented.

So, rewinding back to the real world:

I read somewhere that around half (or more?) of the world's population does not have access to potable water. That means water that does not have raw sewage in it or other unmentionables that will make you sick -- maybe fatally.

And what does "access" mean? We Americans, who have clean potable water available -- hot or cold -- coming from numerous spots in our house, cannot really comprehend this. Does "access" mean they only have to walk 50 feet to a well or spring, fill buckets, and carry them back to the house? Or 500 feet? A half a mile?

Back before modern times, access to water was one of the top things to consider when choosing a site for a cabin. That doesn't matter anymore in America. But it does elsewhere in the world. And some people can't get clean water no matter what they do.

We take all that for granted, and although we probably have the world's cleanest water right in our house for fractions of a penny per gallon, we buy bottled water instead, pay more for it per gallon than gasoline costs -- then bitch about the price of gas. Ah, the power of advertising and the lack of critical thinking!

Flame away -- but a reality check:

I suppose to a degree, the human body can adapt to many things. I'm just glad as all hell I don't have to drink that crap.

There was a special on Nat/Geo about how people use the water from the Ganges river for cooking etc. Basically they pee/poop & bathe in the same river....then scoop up a bucket full, for cooking........Might be the Ganges in the photo above?

Makes me grateful that i was born where I was.

I have no problem with people that enjoy drinking bottled water but it does amuse me when I see them drink it over ice made from tap water.

HaHa! Bea, do you remember that commercial where two American guys are vacationing in Mexico and having an alcoholic drink. One guy said, "Remember, don't drink the water" and the other guy something like, "What about the ice cubes'' and they both look shocked.

@Old Dummy - Yeah, they drink that filthy water, but how sick are they and how long do they live? I feel very sorry for them. I drink bottled water (the big jugs) because it tastes and smells better than my tap water. I'm seriously thinking of getting a filter, like Zero mentioned above.

Bottled water in plastic bottles is a major environ problem. Fact: In 2050 the total weight of discarded plastic will equal the total weight of all the fish in the ocean. Most bottled water is tap water. Tap water if tested is just fine for consumption. FACT: The fish we are now eating contains micro size particles of plastic. A whale was found to contain 80 lbs. of plastic in it's stomach. Plastic is a ever increasing threat to our world because it is nearly indestructible If you insist in buying those plastic bottles of water please recycle them.

I think some women constantly drink water because they heard the old "8 glasses of water per day" crap from doctors & other "experts."
They also think they'll look younger if they're constantly hydrated.
