Brussels sprouts

I don't know. I'm usually suspect of the large ones because I think they are smaller in their normal state. They are my favorite vegetable but I will pass on them if they are too large. Just doesn't seem right.
 

I grew them in the garden once and they came up fine, but aphids were attracted to them; literately covering the whole plant which ruined my appetite for them, so I chucked them never having one.
I grew broccoli once. Never again. I don't care how long you soak it before cooking, the worms (or whatever they are) just keep coming. I've even seen them float to the top of the water after boiling. I just couldn't eat it.
 
We use to grow them and we did good some years and not so good others. I loved the plants and how unique they are. Also love them with butter and parmesan cheese.

This thread has inspired me to try the copycat version of Red Lobster's crispy brussell sprout side dish. Baked with a sauce poured over it made from brown sugar, ginger and soy sauce. Sounds yummy!

I like the deep fried Brussels Sprouts that they serve in Nordstrom’s restaurants. I‘d feel too guilty to eat anything deep fried at home and I don’t have room for an air fryer.

I'll post back after I try the recipe. Brussell sprouts are on my list for next shopping trip!
 
Though I have bought organic broccoli with no bugs or worms seen.
I think organic produce does use pesticides, but they have to be naturally occurring poisons instead of synthetic.
A state extension site I read says to use netting over the plants and make sure it is held down to the ground level so that moths can't get under and lay eggs on the broccoli, and the site also said it is useful to put a nylon stocking on the heads.

I would really love to see a picture of a garden with a bunch of broccoli wearing nylon stockings!
 
Sprouts are a seasonal vegetable and are a traditional accompaniment to Christmas dinner in the UK. We grow them and they usually ripen from about Nov. through Feb. Anything you buy now will probably have been frozen.
A more interesting vegetable is Petit Posy (aka Kalette). these are a sprout kale hybrid where the miniature kale plants grow like sprouts on a stock. They cook very quickly and provide a good green vegetable in early spring.

How do they taste? I love sprouts but have heard some bad things about kale.
