I'm starting this thread because I live in Buffalo, NY the epicenter of the Xmas Blizzard '22 how it started ,latest updates. This storm is different from the '77 Blizzard,in that one it had snowed the day before then the winds just took over
Fri,12/23 out for my early morning walk at 6am temp was 41, lightly raining no breeze, dusting of snow on ground. At 8:15, the winds started to really pickup around 35mph started snowing, winds just went higher it didn't let up for 2 days. The driving ban in city went into effect at 9:30am. The winds were whipping over 70mph at times it was quite terrifying ,because I thought as did other residents our windows would blow out. We lost power/heat Fri afternoon for 4hrs, phone/internet/TV,that was restored on Sun morning around 10:30a. Sadly we have lost 28 residents,3 died on Sat, 2 due to medical issues, ambulances/firetrucks couldn't get to them because of poor visiblity/drifting snow. The 3rd person was found in a snow drift, others were found in their cars or homes
I went outside Sun morning{all bundle up} just to see for myself what the winds/snow had done.My street which is throughfare a plow came by ,really couldn't drive down the street,it looked like we got 2 feet of snow All of Erie County&others were under state of emergency
The Buffalo airport which is located in Cheektowaga,NY{burb of the city} 20 min south from here got 43 inches of snow has been closed since Fri morning, may open tomorrow at 11am. The total has been update to 55 inches,we now have surpassed our avg amt of snow for winter at 100 inches{ this amt includes the Nov storm} The latest, a ban in the city is still in effect, local grocery stores will reopen at 10am,National Grid is getting help from outside sources to restore power to about 1,000 homes still without power/ heat
There is a light at the end of the tunnel, starting tomorrow temps will rise to mid 30's by Fri in mid 50's
If you want me to continue give you updates I will do so,thanks for concerns Sue
