Bulging disc has reared its head again.

February 2024. A wrong move saw me with a bulging disc.
6 trips to the chiropractor saw me able to walk mostly with lessened pain.
Happened again today.
Not as bad as the first time but still very painful moving.
Happened alongside my bed so was able to slowly lower myself onto bed.
I am hoping it does not last too long. All I have done so far is apply Deep Heat and taken Aspro clear.
See what I am like in the morning.

Chances are that you have tried a lumbar support. They can be effective. I use something similar for supporting the abdomen, it helps with the wretched hernia that I will eventually have surgically repaired.

I'm sure that's very painful, hope you can get relief again this time. Happy to know you were near your bed to help you out temporarily. Feel better soon, take it easy....hugs.

Bretrick.. I have the same issues with my lower back.... been through Chiropractors. physiotherpists and cortisone injections.. I want you to do this... believe me it will help... and do it every time it happeens in the future..

Lie flat on your bed, with just one pillow behind your head.
Arms palm down on the mattress either side of your body...
Bring your knees up toward you, keeping your feet flat on the bed or floor..

Keeping your arms flat on the bed... gently swing both knees together to the left, hold for the count of 6... bring them back to the middle slowly... and take them to the right gently.. as far as you can get them without pain... and hold for the count of 6... keep your back flat on the bed at all times

Do this for 12 times... or until you can't .. and do this every morning before you get out of bed...

A sports physio taught me to do this, and it really does help....

Why not get it fixed? I had a disc that slipped out of place just a few weeks after I retired. It took me 4 weeks to get back to where I was before the surgery. Haven’t had an issue since. There’s just 2 small holes where the disc was repaired. No restrictions. I can even lift weights. I just don’t overdo it. I am not in competition.

Years ago a PT gave me a couple exercises to do for relief and therapy, little did I know then that those back pains would point to much bulging and stenosis in the Lumbar discs. Here is a copy of the handout the PT gave me, I now recognize these poses as being simply Yoga:

back-stretch.jpg

These stretches can be done on your bed, or on the floor(or mat) if able.

I am sorry to read this Bretrick, backs are difficult
places to fix, I have always regretted the fact that
they no longer use traction for back pain, you may
be too young to remember it, they tied weights
to your ankles and hung them out the bottom of
the bed over pulleys, they weren't heavy enough
to pull you down the bed, just enough to give the
spine, a bit of stretch, to ease the pressure on the
discs.

I did a few years ago ask if I could have some traction,
they said "NO" and gave me stronger painkillers,
so maybe the drug companies got rid of it.

Get well quickly.

Mike.

I also have 'back-pain,' .... not bulging disk according my Orth.doc.(many years' experienced Orth.doc) after examining X-ray.

He rx'ed Tramadol 50 mg. three time, Gabapentin 400 mg twice(during night) and also Gabapentin 300 mg during day. But, Tramadol causes 'scaring dream,' so I cut-down to two tabs per day depending on when I take them. Even some day, I forget to take them and end-up just one tab. Tramadol is a class of Opiod, so some Doc hesitate to prescribe.

Although I use 'Heating Pad' for Back Pain some nights, my back-pain is non to mild pain. Most days, I even no pain at all.

An experienced Orth.Doc prescribes right meds after X-ray or CT Scan.

I tell you who would be a lay expert on this and that's @Murrmurr ..... he's created contraptions in the past to help the agony he suffers in his back...

My pain mgmt doc spoke of Gabapentin as being part of my Tx, I told him I've had it before and that I would not be revisiting the Gabapentin hell.

Thank you Holly, I will do this later on today.
Pain is much less than yesterday. I can walk around - with extreme care - still getting spasms which hurt like the bejesus.
Slow and gentle.

Slept okay with very little movement. Most of the night was spent on my back.
Taking 3 x Aspro Clear plus penetrating Deep Heat.
