Bulk Buying

Just bumping this thread now our attitudes to bulk buying may have changed since the Pandemic and the shortages, and closures of many stores.. not to mention now the real trial of shopping compared to how it used to be..standing in queues with shops only allowing a certain number of people in at a time, the wearing of PPE.. ... and all the changes that have made us want to shop much less than before..

Are you bulk buying more now than you did before...? I know I certainly am..

Not much has changed for me.

Since the original panic buying incident, I've noticed that cleaning products, paper products, and trash bags seem to be in limited supply so I tend to grab a package when I see the brands that I prefer.

I also buy less fresh meat and rely on vacuum-packed or frozen meat products in an effort to keep a three week supply on hand.

I definitely buy more in bulk than I used to as I really don't want to go to the stores any more than I absolutely have to - especially the large supermarkets. I'm also hearing more news stories about shortages coming later this year so that is another reason.

I've noticed too that the prices on some meats have gone up so will try and stock up on those as much as possible. We're fortunate to have storage space available throughout our house plus a basement freezer so that helps.

I am currently using up everything I bought especially hamburger as I read it’s only supposed to be frozen three months. Just a few packages to go. Took the last of the canned goods for the group home to them this month. I am using up all our canned goods as well.

Then I can restock. Still have TP šŸ˜† and found some wipes today. Cases are increasing here and despite the mandatory order to wear masks, people don’t.

Pretty much what I would have written too....

I have always bought the biggest package of paper towels and toilet tissue my store. That is why when everyone started buying it all up in the stores, I still had a supply for a few months. Now I am down to one roll of paper towels and will be finding a big package somewhere soon. I stock up on some things but it may change as to what I want.

Yes, I am, Holly, more than usually. I try to keep my trips to the grocery store down to once every two weeks, so I obviously have to buy more stuff every time than I normally would.

It works out pretty well, except that I run out of produce after a week or so.

On top of pandemic supplies we have to keep hurricane supplies, too. So we have purchased quite a few nonperishables in bulk: t.p. and paper towels, bottled water, soap, cleaning solutions, batteries, snacks, toiletries, protein bars, etc.

By the way, Amazon opened up their business supply section to regular members due to product shortages. We found many items there that were sold out elsewhere, such as t.p. and kleenex.

I was buying in bulk when the pandemic started ... whatever I could get at the time. But I've stopped that practice, and just get what I need weekly now.

I do keep on hand batteries and bottled water for hurricane season.

Since we have to make a round trip of 30 - 50 miles to do our shopping, we only go every 2 - 4 weeks so we buy sufficient for that.
We buy meat in bulk and butcher it ourselves. We usually buy fish once a month, but there is a very good mobile fishmonger who calls once a week.

In bulk? You mean like a half or quarter cow, sheep, goat? And butcher it?

Bar soap, TP, cleaning wipes, disinfectant spray mostly. I never even wanted hand sanitizer.

It wasnt the sanitizer I needed it was just the hand wash...lol...
