Cable bill increased over $7 from last month

I have a PC. I have an internet connection (1Gb download), and that's it. I don't pay for anything else. Cable TV is a dead industry that continues, zombie like, to wander around. My mother won't get rid of it, but that's because she can't be bothered to change. She's too old. If you refuse to learn new things, then stick with what you know.

But I can't think of any good reason to pay for TV any longer.

I looked and jailbreaking Amazon firesticks is still a thing. People watch a lot of stuff they don't pay for. I would have thought that cable companies would have defeated that technology by now.

So you watch TV through your computer? That wouldn't work for me. I need to lay down in bed to watch TV.

It could totally work. PC to TV is simple (one cable). Streaming from a single computer to the TV's all around the home is also very simple (which I realize is a relative thing). In fact, it's never been easier to have TV, music, and movies streamed to every room in the house.

I hate having the old TV to get rid of, but a new TV makes more sense. Decent 32 inch models run around $100-$125, 40 inchers not a lot more.
New TVs come with various cables, including an HDMI cable. I think a new TV is your best bet, and you'll find after-Christmas sales right now.

I paid only $229 for my Roku TV. It has a slew of streaming services built in. Some require monthly subscription, but a lot of them are free. I love it.

My 10+ yr old TV (not internet/wifi capable) is connected to the desk top computer with a cable. I have wifi for the computer, internet access with Elevate Fiber for $54.95/month. If you ask for a paper statement, it costs an extra $5.00. Price hasn't changed in the seven years I have been here.

I use three different free streaming services, no registration required: Plutotv.com; Tubitv.com; and Plex.tv.

I sign into it on the desktop like you would any other website, find what I want to watch, and then move it over from the computer screen to the TV screen with the mouse arrow. I did have to call the computer guy and ask how to do it. It was embarrassingly easy. I do not have speakers connected to the computer but the TV speakers do provide sound if I turn the TV on. It's a simple setup and works for me.

My phone is a pre-paid, not included in the internet plan.

Can you also watch TV on your computer?

I mean, you can do that, anyway, by going to a website like PBS or whatever, but you'd get all the same channels on your computer that you have on your TV, is that right?

Maybe I read this wrong.

I can watch on the computer and from what the websites say, I believe you can watch on any internet capable device (phone, tablet, etc.). These websites have movies (always older "repeats"), documentaries, news stations, usually categoried by genre. It works just like You Tube.

TV went up $1. Internet and phone up $3. This also makes the taxes and surcharges increase, also. They have also informed customers that after this month, they will no longer be sending out mailed bills. SOSO - keep cutting services and increasing prices.
Yep, my internet service went up $26 in the past 4 years. Enough is enough. I'm canceling AT&T and going with a local fiber optic company -- tons faster (though I don't need super speeds) and cheaper too.

They ran the basic outdoor stuff in my neighborhood back in the spring. Apparently they have to run a line to my house from the gizmo in the ground in front of my house and install other equipment. Bring it on, baby. Tired of AT&T's constant price gouging.

I don't grasp the concept. :(

Here's a secret about technology, from someone who spent their entire career in it. The best technology is the one you're comfortable with. If that means you're back in 1980, then that's the best for you. Nothing will beat it. Don't be disappointed, be happy!
