Can the private message area be used as a "chat" room?

If someone PM you and you click the envelop, you enter a PM area. In that area, if I answered and just waited there, could the other person join me in that area to "chat"? Or do you have to wait for a message alert or keep refreshing the page?

I think it works like a normal thread, you get a in-page reminder, then you can click it to load the new reply.

Yes Paco Dennis, it can be used like a messenger, but as you
say, you need to wait for an alert that you have a message,
also both parties have to be logged in, on the forum, when
this version came a few years ago, Ken in Texas and I, tried
it, you have to have the little green circle on both avatars.
