Can writing humor be learned? Or does one have to be born with a funnybone?

Humor is totally subjective. Any good writing comes from within. Therefore humor has to come from within but is very individual. I mean when I ordered Philly to a French maid costume and posted leather daddy Christmas cookies. That's just me but I had a good time. We all see humor in quite a different way.

Are you a naturally funny guy? My dad was always joking around. But life happened and I lost it. I want to learn it again.

I don't know if it's someting you can learn.

Sure, you can read all the books by famous comedians and try to imitate their style, but it's never the same. You can study theories of comedic writing and try them out, but I personally think that if you're BORN with that sense of comedy it comes SO much easier.

It can't be learned. But I think nearly everyone on the planet has a sense of humor. If you want to inject humor in your writing, just think of something that made you laugh and fit it into the situation you're writing about. If that's a challenge for you, go to youtube and listen to some stand-up comedians. Preferably very popular and fairly current ones. I recommend Louis C. K.. If you prefer an old-school comic, I recommend Steven Wright.

Funny can't be learned, but listening to funny people might inspire you to look at mundane or even tragic situations from a naturally funny person's perspective. (it's all about perspective)
