[SUB]Can you still eat and drink what you used to be able to handle ? Or are there things you must avoid at all costs ?
If so, what must you avoid ?

My wife and I were talking about this the other night. I used to be able to scarf down 2, 3 burgers and a hot dog. Now, a single burger. Hot dogs, no more (big time stomach upset). Large portions of food period, no more {not a bad thing I guess}. Peanuts and Cashews, no more. Peanut Butter, no more...just hard on the gut. Ice Cream, cheese, dairy products in general, no more due to kidney stones. Alcoholic beverages, more than two now and I'm out like a light and usually waking up with an incredible headache. Coffee, I used to drink it like water, 6-7 cups a day, now 2 at most, hard on the gut.

I eat less and differently now due mainly to diabetes.

I miss being able to eat what I want without thinking about it or having to bargain with myself about what I will or won't eat at every meal.

I notice it during the major holidays. I have to spread things out over the holiday season instead of having a large feast with all of the trimmings on a single day.

Nothing that I can't eat but some things are just not worth the hassle. I stay away from concentrated sweets, alcohol, cold cuts, pasta, etc...

I avoid alcohol and eat very little of anything with sugar. No red meats or pork and absolutely no deep fat fried foods. Less dairy. More fruits and veggies and much more chicken. I haven't had a burger, hotdog, fries, or any kind of fast food in maybe decades. Food is fuel and medicine too. You are what you eat. :sentimental:

I have to be a bit careful with processed food and don’t use salt but I enjoy my food and it’s a big part of my social life, I certainly wouldn’t let it rule my life, I agree with Ruthanne, moderation gives you the best of both worlds, in my view

I've never drunk alcohol apart from when I was experimenting as a teen.... but with regard food, I haven't been able to eat anything acidic for years now...and chocolate and coffee is starting to cause me stomach problems..

I don't drink alcohol, haven't in almost 40 years.

Rarely drink coffee, but I drink unsweetened Assam tea, both hot and cold. No colas or other carbonated beverages.

Allergic to casein, so dairy is out. I use substitutes. The only red meat I eat is grass-fed from a local butcher, maybe a pound per month. I eat pork in moderation. Only organic chicken. No other meat.

I eat a lot of vegetables, especially roasted. I also eat fruit. I eat whole grains and lots of beans. I make my own hummus that is better than bought.

When I want something sweet, I make it myself. I bake all of my own bread and pastries using organic flours and other healthy ingredients. No GMO, no pesticides/herbicides. Last I checked, there's no RDA listed for glyphosates (Monsanto Roundup) so I skip them.

I eat as healthy as I can afford to and I watch the Deadly Dozen list.

i eat a lot less then i use to---very little spicy food-chocolate is beginning to give me problems--i never have been able to drink milk i put a little on my cereal--

I have to read more carefully. I thought that last post was from 'twinkies'! I expected a slightly different response...:)

This is a major problem for me. I have Celiac Disease which is an intolerance to gluten. It's in so many food items that I have to read every label before I use it . I also have acid reflux so all foods with acid I try to avoid. I noticed that the hubby and I don't eat the amount of food in one sitting that we use to do. Just recently we went to a really nice buffet and were done in a half hour. A few years ago we would sit for an hour or two munching away. Our tastes have changed also, now we prefer less sweet desserts than we did years ago.

Switched over to gluten free pasta & bread, & eat no processed food (in cans or boxes with a million ingredients). I pretty much eat simple whole foods because it makes me feel better, but I do still have my coffee in the morning, glass of sangria/wine at night & my dark chocolate.

"You are what you eat!" Yes, I agree, but I like to eat, so I'm 10lbs. over weight.
I also like my wine and have at least a glass every day. I believe genetics and
metabolism determine one's lifestyle and at 88 I am lucky to have my health
and be able to enjoy my food and wine.

Still eat pretty much everything I want but portions are way down compared to what they used to be because my metabolism ain't what it used to be. I do find that deep fried foods tend to upset my stomach a bit when they never used to. That really stinks cause I love fried clams! Alcohol consumption is way down compared to what it used to be in my hey day. I don't drink at all during the week anymore and on weekends I have 3 or 4 beers on Fri & Sat, any more than that and it's lights out.

I have to limit carbs, due to type 2 diabetes. The past few months though, I have been sneaking sweets, something I haven't craved since I was a child! Have to watch cholesterol too. I take meds for both and last blood work in Jan. was good, so whew!

I've never liked milk, only use in coffee. Now I use lactose free and that's much better.

I can still eat a package of Ball Park all-beef hot dogs and have room for desert. Four fried eggs and toast or six eggs scrambled with no toast is a typical breakfast, I told my sawbones that I don't intend to be hungry for the rest of my life. When I have macaroni and cheese I use 2+ cups of macaroni (dry quantity) and add about a half stick of butter, some milk, and about six ounces of Velveeta Original as well as some cream cheese or some other cheese.

Life without plenty of good food is ambulatory death.
