Can you still eat anything you want?

No doctor-ordered restrictions. I don't eat certain things that I know I shouldn't. Like, we very rarely eat fast food - I can't remember the last time - but it tastes like crap anyway....these days.

I eat things I probably shouldn't, though....occasionally. But my blood work looks good, I get a passing grade on all my physical exams, and my BMI is perfect, so I don't worry about it.

I'm too skinny, though, and I'm gradually getting skinnier. That bothers me a lot, so I make sure I eat something high-protein everyday, and I don't feel guilty for eating a candy bar or 2 once in a while.
My wife and I never eat fast foods, the smell of burgers cooking is enough to put me off. Our meals are prepared fresh, we do eat meat but we try to balance our meals. Two meals a week are meat free, two more are fish, trout being a favourite and at least one, often two, vegetarian meals. We also eat copious amounts of fresh fruit. It all helps in that weight gain is rare,

An acquaintance died recently due to a lack of sufficient salt in her diet. She suffered a systemic collapse as a result. We need salt just as much as the other minerals. Just has to be used intelligently.

My eating habits have changed big time over the past 5 years. I have developed a sensitivity to several foods that never bothered me before. So, I am very careful with my diet these days.

I mostly eat healthy foods by following a low-ish sodium, low fat, WFPB (whole food plant based) diet. No meat whatsoever and rarely have seafood. Same with eggs. I might have seafood or eggs once a month, usually less. I've eaten this way for 11-1/2 years now. Don't miss meat at all.

My diet consists of lots of vegetables, fruits, nuts, quinoa, brown rice, beans, etc., but also a small, not-so-healthy dessert nearly every day. So far, my weight, BP and bloodwork have remained good. Knock on wood.

Dairy milk products are increasingly difficult for my body to digest so I avoid them as much as possible except over the holidays when I relax my dairy standards considerably. Sometimes to my great regret.

You and your wife are just the coolest couple I know! The dancing, the vintage style, the clothes, the cars, and now I see you're even together on your nutrition! Yay, you two!

I'm diabetic so I have to keep that in mind. I think I'm doing pretty good at it according to my A1C numbers. I do allow myself some raw honey on a single piece of whole grain bread with Becel margarine and "Just Peanuts" peanut butter for breakfast and a bit of honey about an hour before bed. I eat more meat, beef, liver, ham, fish and eggs than I used to because I have a tendency of having low iron in my blood. I still make sure I get my vegetables and fruit.
I do like my carbs too much but I'm working on it. I rarely eat potatoes, pasta or rice any more even though they were once a staple in my diet and I do love them. Biggest source of carbs now is whole grain bread, 3 - 4 slices a day.
I managed to lose almost 25 pounds over the last two years and would like to lose another 20 but that seems to be harder to do than when I was younger. I walk a minimum of two kilometers a day, quite often more. I need to get this closer to 5 km. a day.

Being a diabetic, there are some things I should not eat, or at least eat in moderation. My will power is not so strong when it comes to sweets, especially ice cream. I go totally nuts when ice cream is in the house. But I've managed to strike a balance so that with medication, my A1C levels have been at or under what is considered an indication that I'm managing my diabetes well. However, I do need to lose weight and eating anything I want is counterintuitive in that regard. šŸ˜’

Lots of things I can't eat anymore.

Almond anything
All nuts except smooth peanut butter. Nuts tear up my stomach.
Raw vegetables. Lettuce, tomatoes OK
Melons. Hard on my stomach.
Bananas. Make me sick.

I'm clearly not calorie deficient, so I'm fine.

Back in 1980 the doctor told me to stop drinking coffee, it was irritating my gizzard, or words to that effect. Haven't had any since.

The booze has gone away since. I still enjoy ice cream almost every evening.
