Canceled My Netflix Subscription Temporarily

I recently added Paramount+ as the new Star Trek shows like Discovery, Picard, and Strange New Worlds are all there, and legally (at least) no place else. Curse them for putting them all behind a paywall, but it is what it is, and if you’re a Trek addict, you need your fix. I have the version of Paramount+ with ads as it’s a bit cheaper…
 
I have Netflix, Hulu, Peacock and Prime. I cancelled my HBO add on after season 1 of House of Dragons finished. When the second season comes back and is completed I'll pick HBO back up to watch it and The Last of Us then drop it again until the next season. Currently on Netflix I'm watching You and really nothing else has caught my eye. After retirement I'll cancel all but one depending on which one I'm watching the most at the time. When I'm bored with that one I'll cancel and start another one. Lather, rinse and repeat.
 

I know that I am not staying on the subject but was wondering if I was the only one who disliked all those drawn out (over a season) shows. I am used, from the olden days, to watch one hour shows that wrap up the story. Next episode, different plot! :) I somehow can't get up the patience to follow a story line over a period of months!
 
Have NetFlix, HULU, Britbox & Discovery+. Smartest thing I've done recently is cancel my $139 Amazon Prime, still get free shipping anyway with a $35 order.

According to something I read, HDMI connections became standard in the early 2000s so it's possible your TV has one.

Thank you. Even something as simple as this sounds gives me tech anxiety. Perhaps if I ever move, I'll look into something like this.

I don't mind them, but I do dislike when a season ends and the next season doesn't start again for 9 months or so. By that point, I've forgotten what took place in the previous season.
 
No Netflix/Amazon/ANY "subscriptions" here ever.

Big saving on yearly costs, no worries to renew or about ever increasing costs.

Have old stock of DVD/BR and NAS server with ~ 16TB.

Actually nowadays no time for any videos or flix.....perhaps watch Mentour Pilot or a clip of a classic or Argentine Tango for 10 min before bed....

TRY SUBSCRIPTION ANANOMYS ....NO PAID SUBS OR MEDIA for 1 month....

That's exactly how I used to get free shipping without paying for Prime. But a few years ago, MetroPCS added Prime as a perk when I upgraded my plan. I have the three you have (except Britbox) and Paramount+.

Took a page out your streaming. Cancelled all with the exception of Amazon Prime. Decided I was stepping over dollars to save dimes. Both HULU & Netflix were more expensive annually. ($180+ vs $139). I do use the 'free' shipping from time to time, their hooks are too deeply embedded. My wife balked at the decision to cancel prime, she is more patient than I, she made a good argument against my move. Summer coming up, will mean less time to view. Around Oct 1st is my target date to restart them. Thanks!

If I like the show enough to keep watching it anyway, I have no problem with the "drawn out" plot lines. It's annoying if I don't like the show enough to continue but that plot line changes my mind because I'm curious to see how it ends. :LOL:
 
Netflix's ad free subsciption has gone up to $15.49 (don't think I'm taxed) for new and "returning" subscribers. I'm not sure if returning means those who have resubscribed beyond the 10 month period I mentioned in the OP or anyone who paused their subscription. I'll find out soon because I'm going to unpause so I can watch the final season of Manifest and continue some other things on my watchlist. What the higher cost means for me is that I will not subscribe for as many months as I had planned and will make the best use of my viewing time during those months.

We bought an Apple TV box and just plugged it into the HDMI slot on our TV. I have Amazon Prime so I automatically get Prime + TV. My partner also has Netflix so we now watch shows on that channel as well. There are so many to choose from, and with the current actors' strike who knows when our favorite shows will come back to HBO and SHO? The best of all is that we can listen to Apple TV with our AirPods in and voices we couldn't hear before are clear. It is like surround sound!

Paramount+ has more than just cop shows. They have TV shows and movies in the SciFi, Horror-Thriller, Drama and Comedy genres. They must have the entire Star Trek (including spin offs) catalogue as well as new Star Trek series. P+ has a lot of documentaries, including a series I started watching called Aerial America in which they show aerial footage of the 50 states and key cities in each. The narrator gives a bit of history about each and it is interesting. It was fun to see that our timeshare was in the first footage they showed when doing Atlantic City, N.J. They also have Aerial New Zealand and other countries.

@seadoug It's cool that you can listen to your TV with your air pods and get such great sound. At times when sports dominate weekend T.V. and now the actors strike, makes me glad I no longer have cable and have plenty to stream, :love:

Never say never! I just started to watch a Netflix series that is continuous, OED. I wish I could remember its name at the moment, something to do with an agent who has been relegated to the basement to answer certain calls his boss doesn't want anyone else to know about! The "Night Guard" or something similar. It's a very gripping continuous story. So I stand corrected, some drawn out stories are fun to watch! BTW, my apologies for keeping you waiting for a reply! Our heat and humidity has been incredibly life-sucking. I haven't used my computer for ages and typing on a tablet is too hard for my fingers! Today is the first relatively cool day in a long time (it seems)!

No problem about the delay in responding my friend. I do that sometimes too, mostly because I just lose track, so I know it's not on purpose. I don't like using my tablet to type either unless I have no choice or I'm posting a very short reply. And forget speech to text! Sometimes what gets put in the text field is just bizarre! Since I haven't restarted Netflix yet, I can't help you with the title but I'm glad you found something you enjoy. You had a cool day...today was one of our hottest days. The real feel high was supposed to have been 103.

I feel sorry for you, OED! We've had temperatures as high as 105 degrees, but not so far this year. I worked for a bubble gum factory in London, Ont. where the average temperature was exactly that, 105 degrees every day, every hour. Step outside on a hot summer's day and it felt cool and refreshing. Yeah, those darn immigrants taking our jobs away. Nobody else wanted to work under those conditions. Some rednecks can be so dense and insecure. This country was built by people like us and everyone but indigenous people is a descendant of immigrants anyway! Ancestors who didn't always behave honourably toward the original inhabitants! Sorry, I am getting carried away. A racist remark in another thread got me going.

To return to Netflix. The series is called "Night Agent!" Very good, very thrilling, trouble is I just was told that I only have two episodes to go! I guess that after that I might or might not see another season for another year or so. If enough people watched it! And if the writers' strike gets settled soon! I should have checked first. I violated my own advice, which was: make sure there are at least two seasons published by Prime, Disney, Crave or Netflix before becoming involved!
 
Cancelled Netflix permanently 7yrs ago. Won't go back. Have no reason to.
I only watch TV when I go to bed or a college football game in season.
I have Amazon Prime on my ROKU TVs and that's all I need for as little as I watch.

I cancel Netflix from time to time. I usually unsubscribe when they don't have any good sci-fi shows. A few years ago I liked to watch the Marvel Super Hero shows (Daredevil, etc.). But then they cancelled all those shows. There was some good stuff, but not so much now. I'm about ready to unsubscribe again.

Love you reply OS❣️ We do seem to have very similar tastes, so for that reason I already decided that I'll check it out once I resume my subscription. But then I went to Wikipedia. Turns out I already like some of the cast. The young woman who plays Chelsea, I saw in Siren. DB Woodside (Erik) was in Lucifer and now appears sometimes in 911: Lone Star. I didn't think I'd like Robert Patrick when he took over the main role in The X Files, but I really liked him in that and in Scorpion. I never have liked the woman who plays the president though. That it is only 10 episodes is appealing to me. If I really, really like the show, I'd want to see more episodes in S2. Yes...that's the good news..season 2 has already been green lighted.

@ronk I loved the first season of Luke Cage, hated the second. From watching Luke, I tried watching Jessica Jones...just couldn't get into it after a couple of episodes. Same for Daredevil. Have you seen the new Marvel show starring Samuel L. Jackson? It's called Secret Invasion and it's on Hulu.
