Car Color

How important is the body color of a car to you?

I've recently spoken with a local auto salesperson and when I mentioned that I wanted a certain exterior color, he said they have several fine cars, but they didn't have any in that particular color at the moment and tried to persuade me into another color. When I said they could maybe trade with another dealership, he responded that I was too particular about the color. Well, to me it is something that I'm going to have to live with for at least a decade, so why shouldn't I be fussy. Would the color be very important to you?

Somewhat important but not too very much. Safety, mileage and value mean more to me.

I think black cars show dirt more easily, but look very cool when clean.

YES! Good heaven, if you're paying for the vehicle, then color is very important. If the vehicle is being given to you (paid for by someone else), then maybe not so much. Sounds to me like that salesperson was full of kale. I'll bet when he's the buyer, he'll get the color of his choosing? When I bought my Toyota pickup, I wanted Blue. The only one locally available with the options and features I wanted was Black. So, I took the black. I have regretted that ever since. That was 1992. I still have the truck and it's still black. Yes, color is very high on my priority list. You should find a salesperson who respects your list and not their own. Just my thought's on the subject. Don...

When I decided to purchase a car I knew exactly what kind of car exactly right down to the colour and I wouldn’t settle for anything else and I got EXACTLY what I wanted.

Color is important Deb, but the color you like is not always available in the vehicle you want to buy. At the time we bought our Dodge Nitro, it only came in several colors and we had to choose which one of those we would settle for. The color is not the most important thing to me though, price and features are important too.

If you're shopping for a new car, you can usually look online for the make and model, and see exactly what colors they make that certain vehicle in.

Are you shopping for a new or used car Deb?

I would be more concerned with the price than the color.

I prefer a bright red vehicle that stands out and is easy to see in the snow but I could live with any color if the price was right!

You should hold out and get the vehicle that you want.

If they make it your salesman can find it or order it for you.

If he can't then it's time to walk away and find another dealer.

Color is very important to me. I live on a dirt road and it has to be a color that helps camoflage the dust lol My current car is silver/beige and is perfect for that. Hubby`s truck is black so not so much. I am considering a new car and I really, really want red but won`t get it. Probably try to get about the same color I have now.

[h=1]Do red cars get pulled over more often for speeding?[/h]

Everyone says that red cars actually do get nailed for speeding more often that their more muted counterparts. Everyone, that is, except the people who actually know about these things.

But while it's true that police across the United States give out 34 million speeding tickets a year, to the tune of $6.2 billion in fines, there's no hard data (besides anecdotal evidence) to support the idea that most speeding tickets are issued to drivers of red cars. Want to know what the most-ticketed car color is, according to a 2014 study that compiled data from a few different sources? White. White cars accounted for 19 percent of the 924 total traffic citations (all tickets, not just speeding) used in the study [source: George]. It's true, though, that red came in second, with 16 percent of citations.

Perhaps even more significant, though, is the revelation that certain makes and models of cars get pulled over more than others. The most ticketed car in the past few years is the.......

Yes it would. Neutral colours put me to sleep.

Our last 2 cars were bought used. I shopped online and ignored all dark colors and silver. A black car in the Florida summer is like a sauna on wheels, it would be worse in Arizona. It is 46 years since I last drove in snow. Our present car is light blue, the two that preceded it were white.

In the 1980s I was sent a company car that was black with a black leather interior. I parked it with a thermometer in it and it registered 140 degrees, and that was in March.

Price is more important to me than color. I would never have black because of the heat here in Houston. And yes certain types and colors of vehicles get stopped more often than others. When my brother was a state trooper and working drug enforcement, it was the case. Of course there had to be a good reason for the traffic stop to begin the stop.

When my old car literally fell apart (transmission) a couple years ago, I needed to find transportation fairly quickly. I didn't consider a brand new car because for me, at least, I think the initial depreciation is a waste of money (plus I couldn't really afford a brand new one anyway). Luckily a found a near perfect condition two year old car with low mileage, a reasonable price, and a good carfax report. I would have preferred a different color, but the color was probably the least of my considerations -- except I probably would not have bought a black car due to the godawful heat here in the summer.
