Car inspection during covid-19?

How will this work when your car is due for inspection during this pandemic since there is no safe way to do that without exposing yourself and your vehicle to another's germs?

Shoot, I have brake fluid leaking, but there is no way I'm taking it in to be fixed!

I've gone six months without a new inspection sticker already. Try not to worry about that. My car's suspension is rattling underneath somewhere but I'm putting it off until things calm down.

Ask your auto shop what precautions they are taking and then take a few of your own.

Today when I went to the shop the young tech wiped down the steering wheel, window and doorknobs when he got out of the car.

I suppose some germs from his breathing could have been floating around so maybe a quick squirt of Lysol would be in order.

Now might be the perfect time to have things done while business is slow and we have no place to go.

Good luck!

We dropped my wife's car off for its annual preventive maintenance, oil change, and inspection.
They should be calling us in about an hour to come pick it up.
We will do our own disinfectant routine when we go get it.
The dealer service department did appear to be doing everything they could to keep everyone safe.

I’m having a similar thing happening. Someone bashed into my car in the parking lot and caused $2,000 worth of damage so I need to take my car in to get a new bumper on April 17th. Then I get a service vehicle until it gets fixed. How do I know I’m safe?

I'm not talking about necessary car repairs. Of course that must be done.

I'm talking about the yearly car inspection to get your sticker for the coming year. It seems they should cut us some slack this year, because nothing is wrong with everybody's car, it's just the mandatory yearly state inspection. I think they should let it go until after the virus.

If my car had problems, of course I would take it in for maintenance and repair.

I will continue to drive (sparingly) until I can get it inspected.. (y)

Our DMV here is closed and they are giving extensions on everything, even drivers' licenses.

This is the official statement on our equivalent in this country ( the annual MOT test)....

Vehicle owners in Britain will be granted a six-month exemption from MOT testing, the Department for Transport (DfT) has announced.

All cars, vans and motorcycles will be exempted from needing a test from March 30.

This will allow people to carry on with essential travel during the coronavirus pandemic, the DfT said.

This means if your vehicle's MOT is close to expiring then you will not need to arrange to have a test carried out, and you will be able to drive on the roads providing your vehicle is in a roadworthy condition.

Drivers were warned that vehicles must be kept in a roadworthy condition.

Garages will remain open for essential repair work.

Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said: "We must ensure those on the frontline of helping the nation combat Covid-19 are able to do so.

"Allowing this temporary exemption from vehicle testing will enable vital services such as deliveries to continue, frontline workers to get to work, and people to get essential food and medicine.

"Safety is key, which is why garages will remain open for essential repair work.

My state inspection is due by the end of April. Normally I'd take the car to a trusted modern garage some distance away, and wait for it to be done. These are far from normal times, however, so I'm taking it to a small and rather primitive local garage within walking distance of my home who's open and has done a small amount of work for me before. I'll drop the car off, walk home, then walk back to get it when I'm called that it's done. The mechanic, rough around the edges but competent, told me he'll use a "Coronavirus spray" on the steering wheel and that there may be an odor in the car because of that. I want to be legal as apparently vehicles can be stopped with fines imposed if it's felt you're engaged in non-essential business... 🙀

Perhaps you might reconsider your decision. Brakes are more than a convenience feature.

I agree. Brakes are not to be messed with. A leak in the brake line can make your brakes go mushy and the car may not stop when you need it to. It could cause and accident. Also you don't want to let it get so bad you're driving without brakes. This happened to me once and I was really scared driving to the auto repair shop.

I'm in NY State, just got my inspection done this morning, most service departments are open, mine is,there was no one in the showroom, lots of sanitizer and social distance.
It is the beginning of the month but I had thought if any of these grace periods are lifted there maybe a shortage of stickers, one less thing to worry about for the year.
