Car ploughs into Football crowd in Liverpool city centre.

I live approximately 5 miles as the crow flies across the River Mersey from where this nightmare scenario occured.
There are many Liverpool FC supporters that live around the Wirral, and only this afternoon, I was sipping tea over the road at a certain lovely lady's house, where some young relatives of hers (who were there) were giving us a graphic account of the horror the world has now witnessed.

I feel so, so, sorry for all of those innocent people who were injured by that wicked man.
I also feel so sorry for the team and the many, many thousands who turned up in the city for a joyous celebration, and then had it wrecked by the driver of the car.

That person should never be allowed any freedom now, he should spend the rest of his days in prison, where some very tough inmates will no doubt administer further punishment.
I agree Tim, but you and me and the rest of the country knows that's never gonna happen. Our justice system is broken

I've never understood this sentiment. You only get to prison if you've done something heinous. Relying on them for "justice" is just weird. (IMO). They're criminals.

One thing I thought of was alcohol...being drunk. Now I have read a few places that drug impairment is being investigated. Anyone hear more on this?

yep I think the previous ones were terrorists...in this instance it's not.. they've released the fat that he's a British 53 year old businessman, married middle calss.. 3 great kids, neighbours say he's a great guy, always willing to lend a hand... all wondering if he had a medical episode of some sort...

79 people now reported with injuriries

friends of this driver said he was just dropping off a friend of his wife... panicked when he found himself in the crowd , and people were banging on his windows.., and calling for him to be stopped...

yeah right... in that case.. the first thing you think to do is reverse over a child....then slam into drive and knock over other people.. then revrese again.... all in a road that you know you shouldn't be in.... yep tell it to your mother....

Merseyside Police assistant chief constable Jenny Sims told a press conference today: 'As always, our thoughts remain with all of those injured and affected by this appalling incident, which took place during the Liverpool Football Club parade on Monday.

'As you have heard from our CPS colleagues, the man arrested by Merseyside Police following the incident on Water Street has now been charged with seven serious offences.

'I fully understand how this incident has left us all shocked and saddened, and I know many will continue to have concerns and questions.

'Our detectives are working tirelessly, with diligence and professionalism to seek the answer to all of those questions. When we are able to we will provide further information.'

Chief Crown Prosecutor for the CPS Mersey-Cheshire Sarah Hammond said the investigation was still 'at an early stage'.

'Prosecutors and police are continuing to work at pace to review a huge volume of evidence,' she said.

I recently saw a demonstration of a new type of vehicle stopping device, for the prevention of this kind of horrible event. The device is a L shaped metal barricade about 3 meters wide. If a vehicle rams into it, the device pivots backwards, which raises the front wheels of the vehicle off the ground. Instant stop is effected. The barriers have small castor wheels under them, so they can be moved into position by Police or event security . A second method is to park large city owned vehicles, like garbage trucks, snow plow trucks, or the like, to close off the streets at a festival location. JIM.

yes that new system souds like it would be a deterrant.... but in this case.. the road was already blocked, off and the opened it just to let an abulance through and he followed the ambulance.

This was clearly deliberate.. it was a long road, full of football supporters waiting for the wnning team parade..

He entered the road at spot number 1 the top of the picture ... and drove the whole length of the road to number 7 just before the T junction to the main road

A white, British, former marine.

We don't know anything about his motivations yet, but this story tells us that desperate people do desperate things.

Another car has rammed football fans as they walked along celbrating , this time in Grenoble France....

The family was celebrating on the streets of Grenoble, in the south east of France, when the vehicle rammed the group late on Saturday, French media reports.

27 police officers and 40 firefighters attended the horrific scene after a vehicle "lost control" and ploughed into the group.

The car is reported to have collided with 'four members of the same family' just before midnight, an incident that's left one woman "fighting for her life", with two others in intensive care according to authorities.

It comes after Paris St Germain were crowned kings of Europe last night for the first time in their history, with the club securing a thumping 5-0 Champions League victory over Inter Milan in Munich.

A fourth person is said to be "extremely badly injured," an emergency services spokesman added.

The four family members were taken to nearby Grenoble Alpes University Hospital for treatment.

Footage emerging from the scene following the incident shows paramedics crowded around the injured on the city street.

Locals look on in horror as paramedics attempt to save the family.

According to reports published by local media, the driver jumped out of the car following the incident and "attempted to escape:, before handing himself over to police.

A police prefecture provided more information on the incident, explaining "a vehicle apparently lost control" and that the driver had now surrendered to authorities and had been detained.

It comes amid violent pockets of celebration across France.

Don't know if people are aware, but this is a problem in China too, although it's possibly more insidious.

In China, the targeted victims are usually school children. They have a national program that is ongoing, which places bollards outside schools to prevent such attacks. Here is one such case from 2024:

Car driven into crowd outside primary school in China

Let's face it, it is going to be very very difficult to prevent these types of attacks.

I'm seeing reports of some kind of incident in Boulder, Colorado. Good grief, there's no end to the madness.
