Casinos, Do You Go?

I'm the wrong person to ask this question. My ex is a gambling addict. I don't like casinos, because to me, it's a rip off. You are lured into thinking you might "win" , big, then when you don't, - oh, well, you got "entertainment value" for your money. At work, we would hire a bus and a bunch of us would go to Atlantic City. On the way back, no one was a "winner". We all came back with less cash than we did on the way down. That's 56 people and about 5 trips to AC, and nobody "won" . Except for my ex, she always "won".. Later, I figured out she lost about $1,200./trip. Plus more than half of the money bet at casinos is from addicts. Like I said, my ex made me rethink my opinion of casinos.

when I went over to visit my family in Canada went to one by niagra falls -- first time-enjoyed it - people kept askIng if was from OZ LOL ...Just on slot machnes …not ready for card tables ....

Was thinking that it being Friday the 13th I should check out the casino and make my voluntary tax donation. Not a big spender, just like the atmosphere and if a win comes along I put it back most times anyway.

We've been casino fans, for years....we usually go about once a month, and that suffices for our "entertainment" budget. We are planning our next trip for later this month....but, with this coronavirus issue, we may skip this month....will be watching the local news closely for any evidence of local sickness, and decide accordingly.

In my RVing days, I stopped occasionally. Spent my allotted $20 on the slots, had dinner, saw a show but mostly people watched. It was a fun happening with a group of RV friends. There were a few serious gamblers in our group but most did as I did. Free safe parking with lots of entertainment for several days and then on to next adventure.

The last time I was in a casino was Oct 2011 in Las Vegas
My friends and I had made the reservations 6 months previously,we basically had the casinos to ourselves, since so many people had cancelled their reservations.
I was sitting at a quarter slot machine,about 1/2hr later I won $80

A few years back the hubby and I went to Atlantic City quite often. They had great comps.Free rooms, food and a little slot play.
Generally I would enjoy the pool and the hubby would play the slots just enough to be asked back.
These days the comps aren't that great. We haven't been for several months but I did get an offer for a free room so I booked it for our anniversary at the end of April.
With this virus I'm not sure if we will go. They give you 72 hours to cancel so we will wait and see.

I went several times when I lived near Memphis. Would budget what a dinner and movie would cost, but could never gamble it all. Hurt my feelings too bad to lose any. I felt like I was flushing my money down the toilet.

I grew up as a child, in a family and community that frowned on drinking, smoking , and gambling. Most of the family practiced these behaviors and I've followed suit. That was back in the 30's and early 40's. That type of behavior wasn't that uncommon back then, at least in certain segments of society.
My dad, grand-dad, & uncles lived in this manner and I held them in high regard - -still do although they are long departed. I've never seen the need or want, to change my behavior but realize that times have changed. Others may enjoy these pastimes today, just not for me.

I should add that i pass by the Foxwood Casino in Conn. a few times each year. Even drove by it once just to see what it looked like. It's actually closer to RRose than I but not too far from our son's home.

DaveA we took a trip to Conn. a few years back to see the fall colors and stopped in the Foxwood and another one nearby. I can't remember the name. One of them had 1/4 cent machines. I had never seen that before. I had fun playing them because all you could lose in one pull would be 1 ot 2 cents. The big win would be around $5.00. I don't remember winning but it took all day to empty my change purse. My kind of gambling.

When I visit my sister in La. we always take a day to spend at the casinos. We take $50.00 to lose at the slots, $20.00 to eat afterwards and then we head home. We cannot believe the folks lined up at the ATM's to get more money to play. We usually break even, enjoy a nice lunch somewhere and head home. It is a once a year thing for us.

Buses routinely ferry people to Atlantic City casinos from some distance, giving them a small financial stake (usually around $20) and meal vouchers. Years ago I rode the buses, and would play the slots until I had blown through my stake or made a significant win, then I'd stop. The down side was the long bus rides plus staying on site longer than you really wanted to and the bus left, arriving home late at night...
