Causes of Stress

What causes you the most stress in your life?

1) family
2) work
3) living conditions
4) health
5) outlook on life
6) the world situation
7) other (specify)

One thing for all of us (including me!!!) to remember is that it isn't what happens to us in life, but how we react to it that determines our stress levels and mood. This doesn't mean that we have to be stupidly grinning all the time or put on a fake "Pollyanna" attitude, but instead be aware of what is going on with us and find ways to deal with the things that cause us stress. Some things that cause us stress, we can cut out of our lives. Other things, we have to deal with, and it is those that I am referring to.

Some may think that the whole mindfulness thing is just a fad, and it might be for many folks. We will know a few years down the road that it was mostly a fad if we stop hearing and reading about it. However, fad or not, some of the suggested practices are actually good for us and are worth looking into. As with anything, when looking into mindfulness practices, take what you need and leave the rest. Learning to breathe a certain way to help alleviate a stressful reaction to a situation can be good for us, while sitting on the floor cross-legged in a full lotus position to meditate may not at our respective ages here in this forum.

Just something to consider when discussing stressful situations...

Tony

I create most of the stress in my life by overthinking things.

I attribute it to living alone and having unlimited time to turn things over in my mind.

That's me, Aunt Bea, overthinking everything.

Been that way my entire life, and with age it hasn't gotten better with me, it's gotten worse. Shutting my brain down is just something I have always struggling with doing.

It's kind of like a little train. You're standing at the station. The train comes in, and it's a never ending train-cars are lined so far back you can't see where it ends. As each car comes along, it dumps a load on you. As soon as you dust your self off, another car enters the station and dumps a load on you. And each one of the cars has a big label. One says "work grief", the next says "pay this', the next says " I didn't mean that"., and the next says " But you promised". On and on. Sometimes you can deal with what a car delivers, other times, you hate trains. It' s not one thing, but a train load of stuff.

And sometimes you go along for a while without anything being dumped on you and you think "hey, maybe this crap is all over now," and then a train comes in and every car is full of stuff for you to deal with. Ugh! That's how my week has been.

family, work, outlook, world situation.

Family abused me and caused stress.
Work always kills me. I'm grateful for my employment but I work a hard job.
I'm often negative, worried, depressed, anxious.
World situation. too much to list.

The world situation and most particularly the U.S. situation stresses me out the most. For the last 4 years I was anxious about my country and its president. Since another man has now filled that position, I have been at peace. I still get stressed about climate change.

try not to get stressed Ruby, stress will cause you cancers, and death... do what you can personally do for climate change , and then forget it, don't let something you can't control kill you...šŸ¤—

oh and being treated like i don't exist kinda tends to be a bit upsetting. not that too many care. šŸ˜’
I care. And I know how you feel. I'm like that a lot.

Especially at work. I'm always serious, focused on my job. I see other's laughing, socializing, drinking coffee, on their cell phones. Not that you can't have some fun at work but the job is a serious situation. Other people are counting on us.
