Causes of Stress

I create most of the stress in my life by overthinking things.

I attribute it to living alone and having unlimited time to turn things over in my mind.

"Always think, 'what's the worst that can happen' and have some kind of strategy to deal with it." - Richard Branson
...and yet you're probably the wisest person on this forum... :giggle:

Wouldn't it be more important to have thread that talks both about what causes stress and what folks do to reduce it? Just asking.
Don't try taking my February angst away. What would we be without stress? A bunch of lumps sitting around waiting for our next meal. I see it every day.

In answer to the OP... my health is a little concern but nothing major compared to others.... and currently the world sitaution with the pandemic and what's ultimately going to be the end goal.. but it's not exactly stressing me..any of it... just naturally a little concerned..

Many people pronounce it without the "r" anyway. :)
LOL! I've always left it out. :)

There's a standing joke right now related to CBC Radio, specifically the regular nightly program As It Happens, where one of the hosts, Chris Howden, can't wait for the month of February to pass, account it's pronunciation.

Anxiety, I'm scared of the dentist and when I found out that you had to be awake to have cataracts removed (some time in the future) I freaked out. I hate being a coward - teeth and eyes are my worst nightmare.

Oddly enough I believe having money can cause stress, just as having none creates the stress of not knowing where your next meal is coming from, but there has to be a reason why so many winning lottery tickets go unclaimed beyond folks losing their ticket, or forgetfulness! :)

Good stress the family in most cases perhaps(?). :)

I don't understand what you are saying
I found a strength of tolerance inside myself when my child tried to wind me up, for example by tapping my face around my eyes, whilst we were in a very quiet church, when telling her to desist, causing a fuss etc would have been tricky.
I decided, if I'd helped bring a child into this world willing to poke her dad deliberately in the eye I'd let her, and I think she was surprised at my tolerance of her behaviour, and she stopped doing it.
That kind of stress I'd describe as a good thing as in a sense it brought us closer together, her perhaps understanding better my commitment to her, and my being relieved she wasn't actually going to injure her "dear old dad".
Other examples might be dads who have to accept the hullabaloo when boisterous children disrupt him watching a big game on tv, although before my daughter arrived, my then wife and her mother tried to speak to me during a rugby union international game, and I was in a trance, so never heard them!
These are examples of good stress, ones probably lengthening our lives, rather than shortening it! :)

OK, I'm a very practical, tactile, down to earth person with few philosophical bones in my body. For me the cause of all my stresses is a feeling of helplessness. Let me elaborate. Long range weather forecast for where I live is a snowstorm every other day for the next two weeks. I'm not the world's best snow shoveler. I cannot control the weather. Because I cannot wear a mask, neighbors who gladly used to help, avoid me like I'm a serial killer. I don't want BF to think the only time he hears from me is when I need him to shovel my snow, but this winter is shaping up that way. I can't afford to pay a landscaper to do it. (My cousin in NY just paid $300. to get shoveled out of one storm. ). I feel like this pandemic is putting me in situations I cannot resolve almost daily.

I used to help people with their stresses and I was good at it. Now I feel like a super victim and I hate not being in control of a situation. This is what is causing me the most stress in this moment. I know it will pass. Stress is like driving in heavy traffic, just focus on the cars ahead of you. One thing at a time.
