I received my Amazon credit card bill this week. I usually check every statement the day I receive it whether it comes email or snail mail. Things were busy this week however and I was a couple of days late checking it. The lazy part of me started to just pay it without checking it. However, I sucked it up and went over each charge. All was well until I reached the charge for $106.l checked every chaegeangd

Thanks for this warning, Sally. My Amazon purchases all go on my credit card bill, which I receive monthly. The Amazon purchases are never itemized; the bill just shows that I spent, say, $79.95 at Amazon that day, but nothing about what I bought. I've started writing down my online purchases in a little book, as what you experienced would be only too easy.

Amazon doesnt send out an invoice? I havent shopped on Amazon but every other place I shop online sends me an email invoice.
I pin that invoice and any shipping updates I get to the top of my email. When I receive everything I delete the emails.

I do this cause I have not received items in the past when they do multiple shipments instead of one shipment.

Amazon does indeed update you with receipts, shipping information and etc. I can also easily go into my “orders” and get all pertinent information. However, nothing about this charge showed up anywhere except on the actual monthly bill. If I had actually ordered it there would have been information about it in my order section.
If I didn’t check my statements with a fine tooth comb I wouldn’t have even noticed the charge. On my monthly statement it always shows what I bought but this charge only showed as a charge to Amazon in Seattle. When I called to dispute they wouldn’t even tell me what the charge was for or for which one of the thousands of businesses who sell through Amazon the charge was payment for. Obvious scam

I do get separate receipts from Amazon, which go into a separate folder in my email. But the monthly statement from the credit card bank just lists the Amazon charges as "Amazon," not itemizing. What I should probably do is compare those figures with the separate receipts, to make sure they don't have any "padding."
Thanks for the hint. I never even thought about the possibilities for scammers until I read your note. From now on, I'll be more cautious about those bills.

I do check all of my credit card statements carefully. I have two Amazon cards, one is with Chase, the other with Synchrony. Both very easy to keep track of. Amazon is usually very good at making things right, so hopefully you got the issues cleared up quickly.

Even though they had no problem charging me for something I didn’t buy they wouldn’t tell me what the item or items were or who the company was. Evidently it wasn’t any of my business. LOL

They have cancelled my card and are replacing it but I can only assume they’ll take the charge off. They did say I have to pay it in the meantime. I don’t think that’s fair at all. Obviously, I’m totally at their mercy. It’s Synchrony Bank btw.

Our Amazon issue is a little different. We got an email that listed the latest purchase number but included 2 items we didn't order. I checked the Amazon orders & returns & those 2 items were not listed. The amount was right also. I checked our credit card info & there was no additional charge. Only charge matched our purchase.

Best that Amazon could tell us is that the mail must be a scam of some kind & to not reply to that email. Absolutely going to monitor all transaction with Amazon.

I do a lot of Amazon purchasing and have a dedicated credit card through Chase for that purpose. I also use it for gas because of the points I accrue.

Over the years I’ve noticed several items have appeared on the card which I couldn’t verify through Amazon, which were fraudulent charges. They were easily disputed and the amounts credited back to my card.

OTOH, sometimes Amazon does the right thing. About a year ago, they called me (or maybe sent me an email telling me to call them, I don't remember any more) about a suspicious charge on my bill. I called them (it was their customer service number,I checked first) and the rep, as very nice woman, asked if I had recently bought an online movie for about $40. I told her I had bought a movie (once in my entire life) but certainly didn't pay $40 for it! She laughed and said that's what they thought, and the charge will immediately be removed from my bill. So I learned about it before I even noticed it on the bill. The charge was removed immediately.
