Good morning future online friends! I don't know what in my subconscious prompted me to Google "online senior communities" this morning, but I did and here I am.

I'm a 61 years young lady from the NW suburbs of Chicago, a few years from retirement. I enjoy using social media (Facebook, Instagram), but thought it would be fun to meet some new friends from my own genre, and perhaps gets some fresh perspectives.

I'm interested in exploring discussions around retiring (as a single) to a new state, traveling solo, spirituality, dating over 60 (YIKES!), grandparenting from afar and how to live a full life with a dependent, chronically ill adult child in the home.

I have many interests and am excited to start!

Aloha! I love your home state and have been fortunate to visit a few times. Got married in the 80's at Old Koloa Church in Kauai by Reverand Harold Kilborn...... The marriage didn't last but my love of the islands did :)

Nice to meet you - we have quite a bit in common. I am still working, am a grandmother from afar and love talking to people like myself to see how we get thru this thing called life as a senior! Wow, I sure don't feel like one :)

Hi Robin!

Maybe we should start a new post specific to managing long distance grandparenting? My 2 little ones, ages 5 (on Saturday!) and 2 1/2 are such a joy to me, but 1600 miles away! Thank heavens for SKYPE. Do you use it? Every time I talk to them the little one always says, "Gramma, you can come visit us." And the older one follows through with, "You know it's OK, right?"

My grandson (the 5 y.o.) understands (on some level) the distance involved, but my granddaughter can't understand why I don't just come over :)

I try to get out there (western Montana) every 4 to 5 months and typically stay for 10 or 11 days. How about you? How often do you get to visit?

I see you're from Seattle. I almost always have an hour, or more, layover at SeaTec on my way to / from my visits and have to say I love that airport. A plus in the travel experience :)
