Checking in

Hello friends,
I just thought I'd check in and say hello. I have been missing everyone.
Michael is starting to get back to normal after his stroke. The doctors called it a TIA stroke, but that doesn't make much sense to me. His stroke was in his cerebellum. The doctors said if he just had to have a stroke, that was the area that would be least effected. So I guess we were lucky this time. I just wish we knew more about what brought it on.
I want to thank everyone for their prayers and well wishes.
I hope to be back on SF more in the future. :eek:nthego:

Hi Ina, I was just thinking about you yesterday and wondering how you and your husband are doing. Glad to hear that things are improving!
Sounds like your husband was very lucky ..... well, you know what I mean...it could have been a lot worse right? There, that sounded a bit better didn't it? Anyway, good hearing from you!

Hi Ina, so good to hear from you! I asked about you and Michael in the other thread, but I figured you were not ready to be posting very much yet...understandably. My mother in law had a couple of TIAs in her later years. They are caused by a blockage in the arteries, either due to a blood clot, or some plaque build-up that stops the blood flow.

Excessive calcium in the blood could cause plaque, my father in law had a major stroke, and they said his carotid artery was 99% blocked with calcification. They were both taking oyster shell calcium supplements for a long time, and that may have been a part of the problem.

Any calcium form, like calcium carbonate, which is what Tums, the antacid is made of, is not well absorbed into the bones, and often will go to the blood and block arteries to some degree. For supplements, better to use calcium citrate, better absorbed. I personally do not take any calcium anymore, and I use supplements all the time. Get enough from the foods I eat.

I'm glad that Michael is doing a bit better, that's wonderful to hear. How are you since the car accident? Been thinking about you a lot my friend, hope things continue to go well for both of you. :love_heart:

Thanks Sea,
As Michael recovers so do I. I just can't seem to catch up on my energy level, and I still wake up whenever he moves at night. I am just so worried about loosing him that I jump at any sound he makes.
As far as the wreck is concerned, I just have a bit of a sore neck and the inflamation is slow in diminishing.
I hope you are well and enjoying the cooler weather.

Good to hear from you Ina, glad things are improving. I've had and witnessed others having a TIA some 13 years ago, it's more of a warning and making some major lifestyle changes were in order in my case and usually in many others.

May you and Michael continue to regain good health.

I understand what you mean Ina about jumping at every sound, and sleeping with one eye open. You're such a loving wife, it's nice that you're there for him. Hang in there, hopefully he will be okay for a good long time and you won't have to be so tense...hugs. :sentimental: We're both doing fine, tomorrow temps are supposed to drop to the 30s and teens at night, maybe some snow flurries. Enjoying the cool, the days have been awesome here.

Hi Ina, good to know you are both on the mend. TIA's are not uncommon in the golden years and as others have said they can be a warning.

I remember seeing something one time that there is a device that monitors people who have had a stroke. Maybe someone here knows a little more about it.

Take care of Michael and take care of yourself too.
