There are several history buffs on this site, I'm not sure if there are social historians that attempt to find the start of social trends.
This hill billy group: Rose and the Maddox Brothers burst on the scene in the 1930's, there suppose to be a bench mark that altered acceptable behavior on the stage.
Prior to their arrival, entertainers, especially singers were to stand like statues, deliver
their songs and then depart.
Rose and the Maddox Brothers were not staid, they violated the behaviors of those that came before.
They moved around, jostling each other, playing grab ass while on the stage.
They talked to each other, talked to the audience, their antics were far removed from the norm.
Their customs were bright red, green and out of character for hill billy singers.
They were a brazen, brassy group, violating standards.
Yet, audiences flocked to see their raucous behavior.
The female, Rose, well she was titillating in her rude method of delivering lyrics.
Today, we would call them dynamic, colorful-whatever they were they were the
precursor's of Rock-a-Billy which became Rock and Roll in the late 1950's
Give Rose a listen as she delivers her unfeminine lyrics of "Honky Tonking.'
