Childhood fears in adulthood

Reflecting back, I took too many chances in risky situations. I can’t think of any fears, except handling poisonous snakes. I used to participate in the annual Copperhead, Rattlesnake Roundup in the Poconos, but stopped after I retired. I noticed my reactions were slowing down.
 
Dogs, bitten when I was three years old and can still remember seeing blood on my arm, I’m not so scared now and would never harm a dog or see it ill treated, but I do not want them near me, unfortunately most dog owners seem to assume, because they love them, everybody else does….

Eating lunch In a cafe last week a dog was jumping up at my knee (after its owner had been sharing her cake with it) I politely asked her to call it away and she looked at me as if I was a mass murderer ! :rolleyes:
 
In early childhood there was little i was afraid of, if i felt concern for my safety i tended to learn everything i could about it and taking sensible precautions around whatever calmed any 'fear'.

i did dislike and have what i later realized was anxiety when we went to the city. And even in our little town i always preferred to be on edges of people crowded spaces not in the middle of them. It wasn't till i lived in NYC and rode subways and elevators that it dawned on me that there were two factors in my discomfort--not being able to move freely and not being able to see the sky.

Elevators took a sheer act of will to ride even i was the only person in them. Fortunately i'm a stubborn. Eventually i overcame the sensation of wanting to scream and get out, away. But i am still more comfortable in uncrowded places. I tend to get tired faster in crowded places these days but i don't have to fight the panicky feelings about it. Long story, i've talked about elsewhere on the forum there was one other factor i didn't mention above because i wasn't consciously aware if it as a kid.

Like @Warrigal and others mentioned i have reasonable concerns due to ageing, but fear? The only thing that comes close is my concerns for the well being of my kids and grandson, indeed for future generations in general.

see, I'm the same.. it's weird ... because can paraglide with no fear at all and I do, and I fly regularly with no fear... but until recently walking the airplane steps took all my resolve......... and I cannot stand on a balcony high up.... or look out of a plate glass window high up....
 
I have a conviction that my fear of heights was instilled into me at the tender age of 14 months when the young son of my foster family was sent to collect me ( which I have clear memory of )... when I was crying in my cot upstairs... and he dropped me the full length of the stairs
